Harmanpreet Kaur (India Women Captain): "Obviously it's a very good feeling. We played really well today. Credit goes to the bowlers and also with the way Deepti played at the end. It was a very crucial innings. Really happy with the way the entire team performed today.
Well, I thought we still gave away 20-25 runs extra over there. We started strong but still it was a really good effort from our bowlers. We started really well in the run chase as well. We knew that if we stay there in the middle, we can chase it down.
I think fielding is something we are really working on it. Today also we missed a few chances but in the next game, we will try to put our best on the field.
Yeah it was really important partnership. Jemi's calmness on the field was crucial. The way they kept rotating strikes was really good. We calculated the game really well. Credit goes to Deepti with the way she batted today."
Nat Sciver-Brunt (England Women Captain): "Yeah, that was massive. Sophia and Alice played nicely. We didn't have enough runs because of those clusters of wickets.
The outfield really dried out throughout our batting innings and then in the second innings. 280 probably would have been a good score here.
Yeah, I guess, the way we stayed in the game for as long as we did. I think it was brilliant. Deepti played really well, her partnership with Jemmy probably did the damage. We probably would look to be a bit more disciplined.
(On Deepti Sharma's LBW shout) Yeah, there wasn't much of an appeal. A bit of weird one."
Deepti Sharma (Player of the Match): "I think I was waiting for this opportunity. When I was batting with Jemi (Jemimah) in the middle, we wanted to build a partnership and at the same time we wanted to get 5-6 runs per over.
I think on early days I was working on the sweep shots a lot and it has helped me. In these kind of tracks, the sweep shot is really handy.
No, I have played it a lot of times in the nets. I have learnt that shot from Rishabh Pant and I like that shot.
I think we have played many series here in England. We are used to the conditions and enjoying our tour so far."
Player of the Match: Deepti Sharma
12:53 AM IST & 8:23 PM Local Time: Time for the Post-Match Presentation!
12:45 AM IST & 8:15 PM Local Time: A clinical performance yet again from India Women as they take a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series with a four-wicket win over England Women in Southampton. Deepti Sharma starred with the bat with an unbeaten half-century before bowlers helped to restrict the hosts to a gettable total.
Earlier in the game, England won the toss and opted to bat. The conditions were good for batting with the sun beating down in Southampton.
Kranti Goud sent both English openers back in the hut inside the first four overs. She dismissed Amy Jones for one and Tammy Beaumont for five.
Emma Lamb and skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt added 71 runs for the third wicket to steady the ship. Sneh Rana accounted for both of them.
Sophia Dunkley, on her birthday, scored a fine half-century. She fell on the final ball of the innings after scoring 83. Alice Davidson Richards also scored a half-century to take England Women past the 250-run mark.
Kranti Goud and Sneh Rana picked up two wickets each while Amanjot Kaur and Nallapureddy Charani got one apiece.
In reply, India lost Smriti Mandhana after a quick start. She added 48 runs in the first 8 overs with Pratika Rawal before losing her wicket for 28.
Harleen Deol then partnered with Pratika as they added 46 for the second wicket. Harmanpreet Kaur fell cheaply but Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma's 90-run stand for the 5th wicket took the game away from England's grasp.
Richa Ghosh failed to get going but Amanjot Kaur kept her cool and finished the game with a couple of boundaries in the penultimate over.
Charlie Dean bagged two while Lauren Bell, Sophie Ecclestone, and Lauren Filer all chipped in with a wicket each but it wasn't enough as India got over the line with 10 balls to spare.
