11:36 PM IST & 07:06 PM Local Time | So, England track down this chase of 309 with 3 wickets remaining largely due to Joe Rootβs masterclass. A competitive game unlike the first ODI but the West Indies will be disappointed at not squaring the series.
England got off to a poor start in their batting effort as the opening duo of Jamie Smith and Ben Duckett departing for ducks with Jayden Seales and Matthew Forde accounting for their wickets. From there on, the England skipper Harry Brook counter-attacked while Joe Root was trying to get his eye in. Just as Brook was nearing his fifty, Alzarri Joseph bounced him out in the 12th over. A couple of overs later, Alzarri put the West Indies right on top by dismissing Jos Buttler for a duck.
England tried to rebuild once again with Root and Jacob
Bethell coming together while the former got to his second fifty of the series.
However, Bethell got out to Roston Chase against the run of play after making 17 off 28 balls. The hosts were under pressure but some loose bowling from the West Indian spin duo of Gudakesh Motie and Roston Chase saw Joe Root race to his 18th ODI century. At the other end, Will Jacks also batted sensibly as the pair stitched a 133-run partnership.
With the game almost out of the West Indies' hands, Alzarri came back into the attack to trap Jacks in front when he was just one short of what would have been a fine fifty. Alzarri added one more scalp to end up with figures of 4/31 off his 10 overs. However, the lack of support from Alzarri's team-mates meant Joe Root took England home with three wickets and seven balls to spare.
