Player of the Match: Mitchell Owen
1:44 PM IST, 7:15 PM Local Time: That’s it. The Hobart Hurricanes register their first win of this year’s competition. The bowlers did a fantastic job to restrict the Perth Scorchers to a below-par total before Mitchell Owen hit a sensational ton to take his side home. The Hobart Hurricanes beat the Perth Scorchers by eight wickets with four balls to spare.

Chasing 156, Mitchell Owen gave the Hurricanes a solid start. He played some fantastic shots upfront against the new ball. His partner Caleb Jewell fell on seven on the last ball of the mandatory powerplay. Shai Hope joined Owen who continued his onslaught and brought up his fifty off just 31 balls. Hope also started getting in the groove after spending some time in the middle.

The Hurricanes took the Power Surge in the 16th over. It didn’t go their way as they managed to score only 14 in it and also lost Hope 38 as the 101-run was broken by Jason Behrendorff. There was no stopping Owen though as he continued going strong from the other end and brought up a scintillating ton off just 63 balls. His maiden BBL hundred. He remained unbeaten on 101 to take his side across the line with four balls to spare. His 64-ball knock comprised nine fours and five maximums as the Scorchers didn't have any answers.

The Scorchers lost Finn Allen (4) and Cooper Connolly (14) inside the mandatory powerplay after being asked to bat first. Keaton Jennings and Josh Inglis led the recovery work and put 58 between them before the former fell on 35 while trying to up the ante. Inglis along with his skipper Ashton Turner carried forward the momentum and kept the hosts at bay.

Inglis got run out on 49 in the 16th over. The Scorchers lost all the momentum as the death overs approached. Turner departed in the last over on 39. The Scorchers failed to finish on a high as they posted 155 on the board. The Hurricanes picked up six wickets in total, with Riley Meredith being the standout for them, finishing with figures of 3/27. Owen then smashed a match-winning ton for the Hurricanes as they chased down the target with eight wickets in hand.
19.2 L Morris to M Owen
1 There it is. Mitchell Owen with the winning runs and they beat the Perth Scorchers at home to grab their first win this season. Morris bends his back and bangs it short outside off, Owen backs away and cuts it over the cover point region for a single.
19.1 L Morris to M Owen
4 FOUR!!! Drilled through covers and Mitchell Owen brings up his maiden BBL hundred. A stunning knock from the talented batter. Morris bowls a half-volley outside off, Owen goes deep in his crease and absolutely powers this one past the covers fielder for a cracking boundary. Takes off his helmet and soaks in all the applause from the home fans. They love it.
