Jhye Richardson (POTM): "It is always good to start a new season well. Traditionally, we have not started the way we would have wanted and have come back well later. It's nice to get a win in front of the home crowd.

That is the best thing about the Scorchers. We have done it so well for so long. We all share it along. Someone chips in always, and that is what we pride ourselves on. It is not a single-player team. Every player comes in and puts on his own performance. That is how it goes for us. It is not in one season; it has been in nearly all seasons.

The support from the crowd makes a difference. We love our fans and it is awesome to be able to put on a show for them first up.

Yeah, I was really pumped up with the ball (chuckles on asking about his wicket celebration in a Sheffield Sheild game against South Australia that hurt his shoulder). It was a good nut. Despite getting hurt, I came back and bowled around 30 overs. That was a good feeling.

There aren't any Chickens on it (On what's inside the KFC POTM award box). It's some veggies, a T-shirt and a couple of vouchers (chuckles)."

5:05 PM IST & 7:35 PM Local Time: Perth Scorchers put on a clinical performance to get the better of Melbourne Stars. The 5-time champions kick off their campaign with a massive 6-wicket win with 17 balls to spare. Cooper Connolly sat it up with a career-best knock of 64 off 51 and skipper Ashton Turner then provided the finishing touches to the chase.

Earlier in the day, Melbourne Stars won the bat flip and decided to bat first. They did not get the start they were after and were 33/3 after 6.3 overs.

Captain Marcus Stoinis and Tom Curran, both scoring 37, helped the Stars to post a total in excess of 145. They finish with 146/9 from their 20 overs.

Jhye Richardson picked up 3/19 from his four and Lance Morris bagged two to help Scorchers restrict Stars under 150.

In reply, Scorchers too found it hard to score early on and lost three quick wickets. They were 37/3 after 4.5 overs. Cooper Connolly and Ashton Turner then put on a 68-run stand for the fourth wicket. Connolly went onto score his maiden T20 fifty.

Hilton Cartwright injured his neck while attempting to save a boundary in the deep and had to be stretchered off the field. He was later taken to the hospital.

Connolly lost his wicket for 64 but then Nick Hobson made sure there were no more hiccups as he smashed 27 off 14 to take the Scorchers over the line with 17 balls to spare.

4 FOUR RUNS!!! Skipper Ashton Turner with the final blow! Over the wicket. 132.3 kmph. Short and following the Perth skipper. Turner takes it on and rolls his wrists, nailing the pull through mid-wicket for a cracking boundary. The Scorchers continue to dominate the Stars with their seventh straight win. The hosts win by 6 wickets and begin the BBL14 with a comfortable win!
