That brings an end to our coverage of this game. Do switch tabs as the Sydney Smash isn't far away. For now, this is Akshay Bhide, signing off, on behalf of my co-commentator Ninaad Dixit and scorer Dushyant Madhukar Kumar. Until next time, cheers and good bye.
Lucy Hamilton (Player of the Match): "Its certainly surreal. It was about going out and having fun with my teammates but coming out with a fifer was surreal. Yesterday's training really helped me. The bowling coach helped me with the seam up and finishing well. Everyone's backing each other's individual skill and we are quite clear with what we want to do as a team. Its been good to finish everything [studies] and get going with my cricket."
Player of the Match: Lucy Hamilton (5/8)
11:26 AM IST, 4:56 PM Local Time: That’s it. Brisbane Heat Women register hat-trick of wins in the Women’s Big Bash League 2024. They outplay the Melbourne Stars Women here in Sydney and beat them comprehensively by six wickets. This win helps them move up the ladder. The Stars Women, on the other hand, suffer their fifth loss of the competition. Chasing 139, Brisbane Heat Women lost Grace Harris (6) early in the innings. Georgia Redmayne was joined by Jemimah Rodrigues as both led the recovery work. Both put 39 between them before Redmayne was sent packing on 19 in the seventh over. Jemimah continued going strong and received good support from Charli Knott. Jemimah and Knott played some beautiful strokes and brought the required run rate under six. Jemimah scored 31-ball 45 before getting cleaned up in the Power Surge. Laura Harris departed after playing a cameo of five-ball 10. Knott was joined by her skipper Jess Jonassen and both remained unbeaten on 35 and 17 respectively to take their side across the line with 15 balls to spare. The Stars Women were asked to bat first and they got off to a decent start as they went unscathed in the powerplay. Lucy Hamilton wreaked havoc in the Stars’ camp as she dismissed Yastika Bhatia (8), skipper Annabel Sutherland (21) and Meg Lanning (13) and Tess Flintoff (7) in quick succession. Marizanne Kapp (9) also failed to get going as the Stars Women were reduced to 67/5. Rhys McKenna looked good at the crease before getting run out on 20. Kim Garth (31*) and Maisy Gibson (15) hit some lusty blows lower down the order and helped the Stars Women get to a respectable total as they got bundled out on 138 on the last ball of their innings. Lucy Hamilton of Heat bowled magnificently and registered figures of 5/8 - the best-ever in WBBL at the Drummoyne Oval. The Heat batters then stepped up and made small work of the chase. They chased down the total in 17.3 overs with six wickets in hand to grab their third win in a row.
