Georgia Voll (Player of the Match): "I sort of knew from the last couple of games that I was going too hard too early. Watched Lizelle Lee bat and it helped me. Decided to give myself some time before taking on the bowlers.
It was a bit up and down. I was a bit disappointed with myself after the last game. Working close with Michael Klinger who keeps believing in me. To play this knock, it feels really special.
To be chasing the big total, I had the backing from the coaches to play my way. It was a great effort from everyone.
If I bat this way, I'm pretty happy. But I think at the moment, 150 is pretty safe."
Player of the Match: Georgia Voll
1:25 PM IST and 6:55 PM Local Time | Georgia Voll's well made unbeaten 97 has helped the Sydney Thunder Women to get their first victory by chasing in this season's WBBL!
Earlier in the match, Perth Scorchers Women decided to bat first after winning the toss. Beth Mooney, the experienced southpaw git life a few times in the start and she used it by hitting a few boundaries. But Chloe Piparo and Dayalan Hemalatha failed to add sigfnificant runs on the board.
Beth was joined by the experienced White Fern batter Sophie Devine. Keeper-skipper duo then took the innings forward and added 112 runs in their partnership on the Perth Scorchers' board in 70 legal balls. Devine added 44 runs from 33 balls with 4 boundaries. However Mooney got life twice in the middle overs and she went on to add 97 before departing off Shabnim Ismail as the latter trapped her on the pads. Mooney hit 11 boundaries on her way to help her team post 170 on the board losing 5 wickets.
For the Sydney Thunder Women, Taneale Peschel took 3 wickets and Shabnim Ismail took 2 wickets.
Sydney Thunder Women came to chase the run and Georgia Voll started the innings on a high note with boundaries right from the start. Chamari Athapaththu failed to meet the expectations as she got out for 9 facing 15 balls. Skipper Phoebe Litchfield hit the first maximum of the game in a picturesque manner but she got out on 14 by her opposite number Sophie Devine.
Then Heather Knight and Georgia Voll took the onus and added 64 runs for the 3rd wicket in just 41 balls to keep their side ahead in the run chase. Experience English batter scored 28 runs from 24 balls with 2 boundaries and helped Voll to take the scoreboard ticking from the other end. 42 runs were required off 5 overs when the power surge was taken and Chloe Ainsworth-Sophie Devine pair kept the Thunder batters in a restriction as they could take only 13 from the over. But once the surge was over, it was all Georgia Voll show. She started hitting boundaries off both Hoskin and Devine to finish the game with the final over to spare. She remained unbeaten on 97 from 56 balls with 13 boundaries and a maximum.
For the Perth Scorchers Women, Sophie Devine and Amy Louise Edgar took a wicket each.
Georgia Voll remains unbeaten on 97 and her valuable knock has helped the Thunder Women to secure vital 2 points!
