Player of the Match: Hayley Matthews
3:39 PM IST, 8:39 PM Local Time: That’s it. The Melbourne Renegades Women have defeated the Adelaide Strikers Women comprehensively by nine wickets at the Karen Rolton Oval. A clinical performance from the Women in Red as they move up the ladder. The defending champions, meanwhile, continue to struggle in this year’s competition as they suffer their fifth loss and fourth in a row.
Chasing a stiff target of 186, the Melbourne Renegades Women got off to a watchful start. Skipper Hayley Matthews and Courtney Webb took their time to settle in as the Strikers Women bowled well upfront. Both Matthews and Webb started finding boundaries after getting their eye in as the scoreboard read 83/0 at the halfway mark of the innings.
Webb walked off in the 11th over, retired hurt on 37. Alice Capsey walked out to bat at three but was sent back cheaply on four. Matthews at the other end continued playing her strokes and brought up her fifty off 38 balls. Deandra Dottin at four started aggressively and shifted the momentum back towards her side along with her skipper.
The Strikers Women had no answer to the West Indian pair of Matthews and Dottin as they took the Renegades Women across the line. Matthews and Dottin remained unbeaten on 85 (54 balls) and 46 (18 balls) respectively as the Renegades Women chased down the total in just 17.1 overs with nine wickets in hand.
Earlier, the Adelaide Strikers Women were asked to bat first and they got off to a flying start. Smriti Mandhana and Katie Mack scored 38 in the mandatory powerplay. Mack (19) fell as the 56-run opening stand was broken in the sixth over. Mandhana continued going strong from the other end and scored 25-ball 40 before holing out in the deep.
Skipper Tahlia McGrath came out all guns blazing and hit boundaries for fun. She received good support from Laura Wolvaardt (27). The Renegades Women pulled back things by picking regular wickets but McGrath’s 24-ball 49 and Orla Prendergast’s cameo of 24 off 12 balls powered the Strikers Women to 185/8, their highest total in this year’s competition. Hayley Matthews grabbed two scalps for the Women in Red.
Matthews led from the front in the chase for the Renegades Women and helped her side get across the line comfortably with nine wickets in hand. She received great support from Dottin who played a sensational cameo which helped the Women in Red grab their fourth win of the competition.

4 FOURRR!! Hayley Matthews hits the winning runs for her side and she remains unbeaten on 85*. Tossed up delivery around off, Matthews stays deep in her crease, slices it through the cover point region for a boundary to end the match. 2wd WIDE! Tossed up delivery drifting down the leg side, Matthews goes for the sweep and misses, the keeper fails to gather the ball, rums down to the fine leg fence for a couple of runs.
