Chloe Ainsworth ( Player of the Match, Perth Scorchers Women)- "The plan was to get the ball to move from the surface and bowl the wobble seamed delivery which jags off the surface. We back our bowlers and fielders to help us get over the line and we weren't really concerned about the lack of runs earlier on. "

6:04 PM IST & 8:34 PM Local Time| A comprehensive performance by the Perth Scorchers Women who have defeated Melbourne Stars Women by 13 runs. A low scoring thriller at the WACA and the home side have got over the line and have started off their campaign with a win.
Earlier in the day, the home side were put into bat by Annabel Sutherland. It was a decent start with the bat by the Perth Scorchers as the vast experienced Beth Mooney got herself to a good start in the powerplay.
Post the powerplay, Perth Scorchers lost wickets at regular intervals as Annabel Sutherland marshalled her troops really well. Skipper, Beth Mooney (31 off 27) was the top scorer in the Innings for the home side.
Valuable contributions from Amy Jones (30 off 28) and Chloe Piparo (23 off 19) as Perth Scorchers ended with a fighting total of 122/8 in their 20 overs. It was not enough on the board for the home side but they had the belief with the strong bowling attack they cant defend the target.
Sophie Day (3/21) was the pick of the bowlers for the Melbourne Stars Women as the target for the Annabel Sutherland-led side was 123 runs in their 20 overs.
In reply, Debutant, Ines Mackeon (50 off 43) got her side to a cracking start and smashed her maiden WBBL half-century in her first appearance at this competition.
You may not believe but there was just 2 batters who got double digit scores in the Stars Women batting scorecard as Kim Garth (10 off 13) was the second highest run scorer in the Innings.
Right after the powerplay, Melbourne Stars Women collapsed and from 33/0 they were bundled out for 109 as they lost this contest by 13 runs. Alana King (3/20) was the pick of the bowlers for the home side who start their campaign with a victory at home.
