Milestone
That's it from our coverage of the 2nd semifinal in the Ranji Trophy 2024/25 between Vidarbha and Mumbai. Vidarbha will feature in the finals against Kerala and the game will be played in Nagpur from February 26. Thank you for joining us for this enthralling game. Ninaad Dixit and scorer/analyst Asraj Khan signing off from the coverage. Stay tuned for more action from around the world.
Akshay Wadkar (Vidarbha Captain): "It was a bit tense because their lower order always clicks. The way Shardul, Shams and Tanush plays we knew that the partnership might build up but we were confident on our bowlers as well. Harsh is the leading wicket taker and Parth is bowling well.

First innings lead is very important because the wicket also crumbles later on. Temperature is also rising so the pitch also reacts. We wanted to bat big in the first innings and tried to get them out as soon as possible.

Parth picked up 3 wickets in an over and we were back in the game. My partnership with Yash was also crucial. We wanted to stretch the game as much as possible.

Very pleased with the spinners. I was confident that they won't bowl any loose delivery so I wasn't hesitant to use an extra catching fielder.

We are confident for the final and we will do well."
Yash Rathod (Player of the Match):"When me and Akshay were batting the score was 56/4. We tried to bat as long as possible. We wanted to spend time on the crease to take the team forward in the game.

Some balls were turning and staying low. I thought of watching the ball and react to it and not play any predetermined strokes. I feel good performing well in this semifinal. I played well in the semifinal last year as well. We will try to perform the same way in the finals."
Player of the Match: Yash Rathod
Ajinkya Rahane (Mumbai Captain): "We tried our best. No one likes to lose. Congratulations to Vidarbha for making to the finals second time in a row. Really proud of our lower order especially in the 2nd innings. It was about fighting back from every situation and we did that. Incredibly proud of every member of the team.

Every session matters. You got to be focused. Take one session at a time. 3 wickets in an over gave Vidarbha the momentum. The way we came back, the lead was okay on this wicket. But they were more disciplined and focused than us.

Too many positives for us. When you lose it is easy to pick up negative things but Akash playing his third game has 2 tons, Shivam, Shardul, Shams and Tanush have been doing well for us. This is a learning experience and we will come back stronger next year."
3:34 PM: Vidarbha move into the finals of the Ranji Trophy claiming a well fought win against 42-times champions Mumbai in a repeat of the previous grand finale.

Vidarbha won the toss at home, elected to bat first and posted 383 in the first innings with Dhruv Shorey (74), Danish Malewar (79) and Yash Rathod (54) scoring half centuries. Shivam Dube was the pick of Mumbai bowlers with 5/49.

Akash Anand opened the innings and scored 106 to help the visitors post 270 and drag the deficit down to 113 runs. Parth Rekhade, Yash Thakur and Harsh Dubey shared 8 wickets amongst them.

Rathod displayed his class in the 2nd innings as well with a classic 151 off 252 balls adding 158 runs for the 5th wicket with skipper Akshay Wadkar (52). His knock helped Vidarbha score 292 and set Mumbai a mammoth and record total of 406 to win. Shams Mulani starred with 6/85.

The pitch displayed some uneven bounce and enough turn but the batters got rewarded for the good shots and patience. Mumbai lost 3 wickets at the end of day 4 for just 83 runs and resumed on the final day.

Akash Anand was patient scoring 39 off 143 balls but the middle order comprising of international stars like Ajinkya Rahane (12), Suryakumar Yadav (23) and Shivam Dube (12) failed to impress and show some fight.

Shams Mulani (46) and Shardul Thakur added 103 runs for the 7th wicket before Mulani was run out on a needless quick run attempted by Shardul. The Indian Test star scored 66 in 124 balls before Yash Thakur cleaned up his stumps.

Tanush Kotian could only last 34 balls scoring 26 runs but it was the last wicket partnership of Mohit Avasthi (34) and Royston Dias (23*) that kept Mumbai interested. The pair added 52 runs before Harsh Dubey picked up his 5th wicket after a long wait thanks to some lapses in the field and wrapped the win for Vidarbha.

Vidarbha will play the Ranji Trophy final at home against Kerala who earlier drew their semifinal against Gujarat and secured the first innings lead to qualify.
