That brings us to the end of our coverage of this Test series. It has been nothing short of embarrassing for Team India, losing 0-3 at home for the first time in their rich history. Skipper Rohit Sharma said in the post-match press conference that this, the series defeat, is one of the lowest points in his career. He admits to not being at his best as a leader and making tactical blunders.
After getting humbled at home by the Kiwis, India's next Test assignment is against Australia where they will feature in a 5-match Test series. They have to win big there to have a shot to play in the World Test Championship final. The history is with India but we saw that it counts for nothing if the opposition plays well on the day. India had a good history against New Zealand at home but we all saw what happened.
This is Ajay Pal Singh, signing off on behalf of my colleagues AkshayaKrishna Polya and Zeeshan Naiyer. Hoping India turn things around when they next play a Test. Until then, stick around for all the action from the world of cricket. Good bye.
Visiting captains to win Test series in India since 2000:
Hansie Cronje (South Africa), 2-0 in 2000
Ricky Ponting and Adam Gilchrist (Australia), 2-1 in 2004
Sir Alastair Cook (England), 2-1 in 2012
Tom Latham (New Zealand), 3-0 in 2024*
Tom Latham becomes the fourth captain since 2000 to celebrate a Test series win in India. He collects the trophy and walks to the middle of the Kiwi gang, which is ready to celebrate beyond the Champions Board. The party begins. Ajaz Patel and his wife stand close to the pitch, getting the picture clicked by Glenn Phillips.
Tom Latham (New Zealand Captain): "Yeah, look I am very ecstatic. Looking back at the start of the series, the boys have done a great job. To finally do it here in Mumbai, a surface that challenged us with bat and ball, pretty happy.
Look, I think just being able to adapt to every ground. In Bengaluru, different guys chipped in at different times. Last week it was Mitch and this time it was Ajaz, he loves bowling here in Mumbai.
Just wanted to try to keep it simple here. This is what I talked about a few weeks ago. Being proactive and understand how India play and adapt our best. Guys did well and happy to be standing here in this position.
Putting runs on the board in these conditions, we had the belief that we had enough runs on the board. On this wicket, it was always going to be tricky.
They are all special, the girls winning World Cup is special. We getting the win here is awesome and the Black Caps did the job last night (rugby team), so yeah, it's great time for New Zealand."
Will Young (Player of the Series): "Yes, it is massive. Firstly, for the team to come here and win the series, it is huge. To win one game here is so huge, but to come out again and again and win the series with a 3-0 margin is unbelievable. Really proud of the boys.
I tried to keep things simple when batting. I trust my mind and keep it clear. I need to trust my defence, and at times, I need to work out where I want to score.
You know the analogy: ducks sitting on the water (chuckles). Memories with the boys, going back to the hotel room, and enjoying the moment we created with the boys. You enjoy each other's company.
Don't know about that (on snatching away Kane Williamson's number 3 position). Let's see what happens in the next series."
