That's it from the coverage of 1st ODI between England and West Indies of the England tour of West Indies 2024. For now, this is me Aditya Agarwal signing off on behalf of my co-commentator AkshayaKrishna Polya alonside scorer/analyst Ghanendra Singh Thakur who brought all actions of the live event. BYE, Cheers!
Shai Hope (West Indies Captain): "They (Matthew Forde and Jayden Seales) set the tone. The opening bowlers picked up wickets. That is one thing we strived, and we got that in this game. If you can't be bowling tight to the batters who are well set at both ends. We just need to be more consistent. Consistency and discipline are major factors today. Definitely, Evin Lewis brings experience. He is a different beast now. He is hungry for runs. He is fresh. Good to see him get amongst the runs. Hopefully, he will continue this run for us. It's good for us to have him opening with such a form and we can continue with this opening pair. Yes, for sure. Happy with the first win."
Liam Livingstone (England Captain) :"It's just a rhythm of the ODI cricket. We know that somebody in top 6 has to big to set a good score on the board. I think 50 overs is a long time. It is important to put West Indies under pressure. The credit goes to their bowlers. I think everyone saw today of what Turner is capable of. He is a game changer in himself."
Gudakesh Motie (POTM): "Well, first of all, the condition was different in Sri Lanka, where the ball was spinning a bit too much. I wasn't getting much turn here. Obviously, you need to adapt to the conditions. I was trying to keep the balls in straight lines. Runs weren't coming from both ends, and it helped me. We had a training day yesterday and we were trying to figure out the pace. If you bowl quicker on these tracks, it's easy for the batters. So, I bowled a bit slower."

07:20 AM IST and 09:50 PM Local Time | West Indies go 1-0 in the three match ODI series as they beat England comprehensively by 8 wickets in a rain-curtailed encounter. Here's a review of what happened in the match. Earlier, West Indies won the toss and decided to bowl first on a tricky pitch. Batting first, Phil Salt and Will Jacks gave their side a steady start with a 39 run opening stand before they both were dismissed by Jayden Seales. Jordan Cox and Jacob Bethell then stitched a 40 run partnership for the third wicket, before the former throwing his wicket away. Matthew Forde came back into the attack and dismissed both the set batters who got the starts but couldn't convert it. England at one point were 93-4. Liam Livingstone (48 off 49) and Sam Curran (37 off 56) then put up a solid 72 run stand for the fifth wicket to get their side into the game. Gudakesh Motie then came back into the attack and spun the web around the English batters. He picked up 4 back to back wickets including the crucial wickets of Liam Livingstone and Sam Curran. He was the pick of the bowlers for his team as he bagged 4 wickets and gave away 41 runs in 10 overs. As a result, England were bundled out on 209. Rain played spoilsport in the mid innings and almost 1.5 hours got wasted. The innings resumed without any overs lost. Evin Lewis and Brandon King started off cautiously but then got used to the wicket. The duo added 81 runs in first 15 overs before the rain came. The target was then adjusted to 157 from 35 overs. The opening stand of 118 ensured there were no hiccups in the chase and West Indies got over the line by 8 wickets remaining. The powerful Evin Lewis smashed the England bowler's to all parts of the ground as he played a superb knock of 94 runs from 69 balls. Stay tuned for the presentation!
