That is the end of our coverage of this Washington Freedom-dominated fixture. I am AkshayaKrishna Polya, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Ajay Pal Singh and scorer/analyst Yogesh Kumar, who brought you all the live-action of this game. There is plenty of action on the cricketing field. Stay tuned with us for those games. We will meet again. Until then, it's cheers!
Steve Smith (Washington Freedom Captain): "Yeah, it was good. We have been looking for a complete performance. We bowled well, fielded well and finished it off in the end.
It was just gut feel (on bowling changes), I thought Maxi won't bowl but a lefty came in and he did the job for us.
129 felt pretty good and we backed ourselves to get the job done.
We got a little partnership going. Travis takes the bowlers on early on. It was nice to see him get those runs."
Sunil Narine (Los Angeles Knight Riders Captain): "You can say so that batting second could be a factor. But sometimes, you have to bat first. First of all, you need to put enough runs on the board.
If we don't strike in the powerplay, it's always going to be an easy chase. If you get early wickets here, the batting lineup is not deep; always looking forward to taking early wickets.
You are definitely allowed to fail. But the confidence should be there to come back. Got to trust the skills of the players, there's a reason they are here, they are still talking and motivated, hopefully they get it right in the next game."
Glenn Maxwell (Player of the match): "Yeah I was fortunate with the conditions and how well Saurabh has been going up front for us. It has been amazing the way we controlled in the bowling with consistent wickets.
Slightly different conditions than the IPL. There was a little bit of spin, little bit of inconsistency. It was a good day and nice to go clear at the top as well.
I am absolutely loving not having a bat. My body is getting a rest. Smudge is doing a great job as a leader and as an opener."
Most Valuable Player of the Day: Glenn Maxwell
Longest Six of the Match: Andre Russell (308 feet)
4:21 AM IST and 18:51 Local Time: We are ready with the post-match presentation...
Travis Head: Yeah, the surface was a bit on the slower side. It took a bit of spin as well than the previous one.
Nice to get out there and get a win. It felt good as we got a full game today. We were here on the field more than we batted in this tournament. Good to be back for a full game.
When it looks like your day, just go on with it. I got a couple of hits from the middle, and I just carried on with it. It was nice to get some luck and get away; it was nice to get a few away off the middle.
It was good to feed off it and good to maximise when me and Smith were going. Looking forward to the rest of the tournament."
4:11 AM IST & 6:41 PM Local Time: That's it, Washington Freedom complete a comprehensive 8-wicket win over LA Knight Riders and stay on top of the points table. Bowlers set it up in the first half and then Travis Head along with Steve Smith steered them home with four overs to spare.
Earlier in the match, Washington Freedom won the toss and opted to bowl first. Saurabh Netravalkar proved his skipper right as he picked up two wickets inside the powerplay.
Shakib Al Hasan and Jason Roy were dismissed by Glenn Maxwell and Lockie Ferguson respectively.
Youngster Saif Badar top-scored with a knock of 35 off 28. Cameos from Andre Russell (20) and Spencer Johnson (16) helped LAKR to cross the 120-run mark.
Netravalkar picked up four wickets while Maxwell accounted for three. Lockie Ferguson also got two wickets next to his name.
Rachin Ravindra bowled just the one over and he got the big wicket of Saif Badar, who was looking dangerous at one stage.
In reply, Travis Head and Steve Smith added 79 runs for the first wicket and took the game away from LAKR.
Head raced to a half-century before losing his wicket to Shadley van Schalkwyk. He made 54 off 32.
Spencer Johnson removed Rachin Ravindra for 11 but Smith carried on from the other end and steered the team across the finish line. Stay tuned for the post-match presentation.
