Washington Freedom finally got a full game, and their batting was tested by the Orcas' bowlers. Kudos to Lahiru Milantha and Obus Pienaar for displaying immense maturity and taking Washington over the line. Steve Smith and Co. are undefeated so far in this MLC and have moved to the top on the points table, with 5 points to their name in three games.
Time to bid adieu. For now, this is Deepak Prakash signing off on behalf of co-commentators Ayan Chatterjee, Saptak Sanyal, and scorer/analyst Dushyant Madhukar Kumar. CHEERS!
Steve Smith (WashingtonFreedomCaptain): "Yes, it was in the end. The top order did not get off to a flier and took it deep. But those two Lahiru and Pienaar did that. Run rate was not an issue and so, they held their composure.
The wicket was slow and low. Ian Holland was great, Saurabh bowled well and Jansen did well. Lockie was great and the bowling group was great. Batters had a hiccup and then we got over the line.
It was about getting off to a flier with the new ball. We lost wickets at intervals and it was a challenge. It was tough for us but those two did the job in the end. I think it was good that they got time in the middle and played under pressure and that will hold us in great stead going ahead in the tournament.
We had rain affected games in North Carolina and good to get a full game and the win in the end."
Heinrich Klaasen (Seattle Orcas Captain): "I think we lost the game in the final stages. We didn't have enough strong finishers, and we were about 20 runs short. That would have made a big difference, especially considering our bowling. I thought we bowled quite well at the beginning. We got the big players out, but we just didn't have enough runs on the scoreboard.
Yeah, I think just looking at the back end of the innings with the bat, we're lacking that one guy who can carry through. We saw how Rickelton and de Kock were successful the other night. We just need that one player to go through, or we need someone who can provide that extra bit of scoring to put more runs on the board. This would give our players the extra help they need.
I think I can be proud of the bowlers. They did extremely well, especially in terms of what we needed them to do. We needed to get the big players out, and we did that cheaply. So, yeah, like I said, there just weren't enough runs on the board, and we need to get that right.
(On pitch) It's alright. If we had scored around 140, it would have been a good score. Thatβs good cricket."
Lockie Ferguson (Most Valuable Player): "Look, I think it has been a good start from the bowling group. We had a wash out game, the bowling group is going great and we are happy with the win. Nice wicket, there was a little bit in it and we are doing well as a group and that matters. Not sure about that. Want to do my job and contribute to the team. I think Heinrich was looking good today and to get his wicket today was great for us."
Most Valuable Player: Lockie Ferguson
Play of the Day: Imad Wasim - for the brilliant catch of Mukhtar Ahmed.
Power Hitter of the Match:Heinrich Klaasen.
Time for the presentations.
Rachin Ravindra (WashingtonFreedom): "I would say it wasn't easy. It was good with the new ball and then got slower in the end. Worked out well in the end. It was all about match ups and after the maiden over I took him down and it worked out well for me against him. Always a challenge at 3. Collective efforts help and do our roles and hope to get the wins like today. Pretty good team to be a part of and how they prepare and are mentally fresh and how they prepare is a sight to see. Proud to be a part of this team."
