An excellent game of cricket. Not your big 300s. Just 240 and it produced a cliffhanger. The game depended on individual brilliance. Klaasen was the lone warrior for South Africa. He gave the hosts something to bowl on a tricky wicket.

Pakistan were struggling in the chase. Saim Ayub had sold a batting partner down the river; he also had a few miscommunications with Agha Salman, but boy, the youngster has nailed an excellent performance.

Ayub scored a hundred, while Salman kept his cool and finished the game in Pakistan's favour despite KG Rabada trying his best to turn the game on its head with a double-wicket over.

South Africa will look to make a comeback in Cape Town, where the second ODI will take place on Thursday. We will meet again. Until then, it is AkshayaKrishna Polya signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Ajay Pal Singh and scorer/analyst Zeeshan Naiyer. Stay tuned for more action from around the world.

Mohammad Rizwan (Pakistan Captain): "If you look at it, it was a team game. The fast bowlers did not do well initially but spinners got us back in the game then pacers did well in the back end. Ayub and Agha played mature innings in the middle.

ODI is a long format, you can make a comeback. We have mystery bowlers like Abrar Ahmed and Agha Salman. You can get wickets after powerplay, in the middle overs, you are in the game.

My job is to keep the team together and happy to see Agha give the award to a youngster like  Ayub. This is what we want, these things keep the team together."
Aiden Markram (South Africa Captain): "We were looking at 270-290. We can reflect on both departments and find solutions. We will see how we can be better in Cape Town. We were 80% with both bat and ball and a few runs short.

Klaasen's knock was good; the two openers started well. There are positives. The fight comes with the South African culture; It's nice to see the guys show it. I am proud of the fight and taking it to the last over. I'm proud of the character, too."
Agha Salman: "We got together in a tricky situation. But we took it one over at a time and built it from there. We wanted to hit boundaries on bad balls, and we got the partnership going.

I think he (Saim Ayub) was there since ball one, played the new ball and scoring a hundred on this surface was tough. His knock set it up for us.

Saim Ayub: "To score a hundred here was tough. He was guiding me, he has more experience than me. That helped me a lot."
Agha Salman shows great character to hand his POTM award to Saim Ayub.
