Milestone
A vital 12 points for the Proteas at the iconic Kingsmead, as they secure their first-ever Test win against Sri Lanka at this venue. South Africa now require two more wins from their remaining three games to keep their hopes alive for a spot in the WTC Final, while Sri Lanka must win all three of their remaining matches. Do join us on 5th December for the 2nd and Final Test between South Africa and Sri Lanka.

That's all we have for you from the 1st Test. It's time to bid adieu! For now, this is Pritam Dey signing off on behalf of my scorer/analyst Zeeshan Naiyer as we brought all the live updates of this day's play. Stay tuned for more cricketing action from around the world. BYE BYE!👋
Temba Bavuma (South Africa Captain): "Yeah very happy. It is always nice to start the series with a victory.

Yeah, look we were obviously in a tough position at the end of Day 1 but we always felt that the belief was there and we were one good partnership away. I spoke to Tristan and that was exactly what we did in the second innings.

We were really confident with the total. We knew what our seamers can do. One or two phases can go against you but like I said, the belief was always there.

I think the batting was not a concern. The intent was to continue rotating strikes and put away the bad balls. Yesterday the final session, things got slowed up a bit but I was really happy with my boys. Losing Wiaan Mulder and Coetzee was unfit as well, everyone stood up and did their bit.

Well we have to sit and think about it. Obviously, Wiaan Mulder has been ruled out so we need to find a replacement as well. Coetzee is not fully fit so we need to have a word with the medical team. We have to assess and see how it goes.

Well we don't speak much in public. We have internal meetings and all of us have the belief to play positive cricket and turn it around for our country. Looking forward to Gqeberha."
Dhananjaya de Silva (Sri Lanka Captain): "Well we did not bat well first of all. We bowled well in the first innings but that knock from Temba, took the game away from us.

It was all about the first innings to be honest. We could have bowled well and restricted them to a low total. Our batting in the first innings was really poor.

Well, obviously we did not get time to breathe after getting all out for 42 runs. Jansen was all over our batting line-up and I did not get time to speak to the coach at that time.

In the past also we have batted really well in these conditions but we did not bat well in the first innings in this match.

Well I wanted to stay there as much as I can but failed to deliver."
Marco Jansen (Player of the Match): "Yeah obviously I have always dreamt of taking 5 wickets in a Test match never thought of 10 wickets but I am really happy to be honest.

It did not sunk it until that night and I was over the moon. Obviously the wicket was low and slow as the match progressed. In this kind of a wicket to pick up 11 wickets, it is a tough target for me to beat.

Yeah, I worked really hard in the training ground in terms of my fitness and I am feeling really good now."
