That brings an end to our coverage for this game. Keep joining us for more cricketing action all around the globe. For now, this is Akshay Bhide, signing off, on behalf of scorer Raju Khariya. Until next time, cheers and good bye.
Laura Wolvaardt (South Africa Women Captain): “Good to get the win. The way we started with the ball was great. Kappie and Khaka started brilliantly. We would have liked to chase it down earlier. We tried but didn't get it. But happy with the win.
We have to be consistent with the ball. It’s tough. We wanted to chase it down quickly. Hopefully, to push that net run rate. But we have to wait for the other results now.
I think Kappie has been incredible with both bat and ball. Today as well, her economy rate was crazy."
Nigar Sultana (Bangladesh Women Captain): “Obviously, the way we started the game in the powerlay was not good. We didn’t get enough runs in the powerplay. In a T20 game, if we don’t get runs early on, it’s difficult. Even I also struggled to get going and we didn’t get enough runs to challenge the South African side.
My point of view is that there are many players who are young and they are playing their first World Cup. Rabeya bowled well. Marufa also has done well in the last two games. Looking forward, there are a lot of positives we can take. But there are also a lot of questions that come in our mind of what we could have done differently.
I think I’m really happy for her. She’s been consistent for the team. This is a very good sign for the team. We used Ritu Moni very well. She came and struck whenever I used her. She took the challenge and there is a lot of intent and emotion. You have to be mentally strong in these tournaments.
What happened it was not in our control. A lot of people came here and supported us. We felt we were at home. It was quite amazing. We are disappointed because we couldn’t put a good performance. I feel sorry for them.”
Tazmin Brits (Player of the Match): "I said to her to rotate the strike. It was good. We didn't want to lose another wicket quickly. I went in my shell a bit. She helped me as she struck a few boundaries.
I keep wanting more. I'm not satisfied. The wicket was a bit tougher and it was hard.
They bowled well and put clever fields. We tried to run harder between the wickets.
It means a lot. To represent your country at this world stage means a lot and hopefully, we will go all the way."
Player of the Match: Tazmin Brits
10:20 PM IST, 8:50 PM Local Time: That will be it. South Africa Women beat Bangladesh Women by seven wickets. A comprehensive victory for them and with this, Bangladesh Women have been knocked out of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024. The Proteas Women go to the top of the table and will hope that the other results go their way for them to progress to the semi-finals.
Skipper Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits opened for South Africa Women in the chase of 107. Wolvaardt (7) was undone by Fahima Akter in the third over. Anneke Bosch walked out to bat at number three. The Bangladeshi spinners bowled beautifully and contained runs in the middle overs. Brits and Bosch kept ticking the scoreboard.
Bosch scored a run-a-ball 25 before getting dismissed in the 12th over. Ritu Moni cleaned up Brits on 41-ball 42 in the 14th over. Marizanne Kapp and Chloe Tryon remained unbeaten on 13 and 14 respectively to take South Africa Women across the line in the 18th over with seven wickets in hand. Fahima Khatun registered figures of 2/19 in her four overs for Bangladesh Women but it wasn't enough as they were unsuccessful in defending the total.
Bangladesh Women opted to bat first and got off to a steady start. After losing Dilara Akter on a silver duck in the very first over, Shathi Rani and Sobhana Mostary took their time to get in. Both put 36 between them before Rani fell on 19. Mostary continued her good work at the other and was joined by skipper Nigar Sultana.
Mostary and Sultana built a solid partnership of 45 before it came to an end in the 18th over when the former got cleaned up on 38. Sultana remained unbeaten on 32 as Bangladesh Women finished their innings on 106/3. Marizanne Kapp, Annerie Dercksen and Nonkululeko Mlaba picked up a wicket each for the Proteas Women. The batters then chased down the total in 17.2 overs.
