Milestone
A solid victory for India Women, and exactly what they needed to boost their dented net run rate. The decision to bat first proved fruitful for the Women in Blue, as they ticked all the boxes, including fielding, where they seized every opportunity that came their way. Substitute fielder Radha Yadav made her presence felt by taking a stunning catch of Vishmi Gunaratne in the opening over of the second innings and finished with three catches to her name.

With this massive win, India Women move to number two on the Group A points table, while Sri Lanka Women have lost three matches on the trot and are out of the ongoing World Cup.

It's time to wrap up our coverage as well, folks! For now, this is Deepak Prakash signing off on behalf of co-commentator Ajay Pal Singh and scorer/analyst Raju Khariya. CHEERS!

Harmanpreet Kaur (India Women Captain): "Yeah, definitely. When you play cricket, you always want to feel good about your performance. I think today, we ticked all the boxes. We batted well, bowled well, and most importantly, we fielded well. We’ve been focusing on our fielding, and we’re really happy that we took all our catches, which is something very important for us.

Well, we did discuss before the game what target we should aim for if we batted first and how many overs we’d need to chase if we bowled. But these pitches are really tricky. You can't just plan and execute without adjusting because, as we saw, we lost two wickets back-to-back. It’s something that requires constant effort.

Fortunately, today, a lot went according to our plan. We batted first, and our target was at least 160, but we managed to set over 170, which was crucial.
In the end, when you're in this kind of situation, you have to focus not only on winning but also on improving your net run rate.

(On the game against Australia) Well, we definitely need to focus on playing good cricket, first and foremost. Our bowlers are performing well, and while the opposition is a strong side, it’s great to see our bowlers finding their rhythm and delivering crucial breakthroughs when needed. I think we’re bowling well and just need to keep doing that, without worrying too much about who’s in front of us. As I mentioned, these wickets are tricky, and you never know when things can turn in your favor."
Chamari Athapaththu (Sri Lanka Women Captain): "Actually, we struggled in the bowling. Dropped a few catches. Bowlers not bowling right line and length. Even the batters didn't do their job. Myself, Harshita and Vishmi, the top order fell early and then it is hard to chase this score. We have to go back to the whiteboard and look at what needs to be done.

Yeah, I think so. The first game is really important for such tournaments. We lost against Pakistan, it was a low scoring contest. I think as a batting unit, I feel we had to chase it down. After that the dressing room was down but these things happen in cricket. We have one more game to come. At least we have to think about that game and play well against New Zealand.

I am happy with my bowling, not in this game, but in the last two games, we have been bowling well. We have to improve our batting and bowling for the last game."
Harmanpreet Kaur (Player of the Match): "Well, we just wanted to maintain the momentum. Smriti and Shafali gave us a strong start, which is exactly what we discussed. We talked about the importance of not giving away our wickets, no matter the situation. Credit goes to them for staying focused at the crease and playing calculated shots without throwing their wickets away. Even after losing two quick wickets, Jemi and I focused on how we could keep the run rate at seven to eight per over, and we just went with the flow.

Well, it was one of those days when I was in my zone, and I just wanted to stay focused, keep rotating the strike, and take my chances when the ball was in my area. I think credit goes to the entire team for the effort. These wickets aren't very true to easy batting. You have to be patient, keep rotating the strike, and wait for the right delivery in your zone before going for your shots. It’s not like you can just swing freely and expect the ball to always hit the bat cleanly. On these kinds of wickets, you need to trust yourself, stay at the crease for a long time, and then you can execute your shots later.

I think that’s exactly what we did today. We didn’t throw our wickets away; we stayed focused and played for the team. I’m really happy with how we performed."

10:44 PM IST & 9:14 PM Local Time: That's it India Women have avenged their defeat of the Asia Cup final and delivered a knockout blow to Sri Lanka Women in this Group A fixture. Sri Lanka become the second team after Scotland to be eliminated from the race for semis in this ongoing Women's T20 World Cup. This is India's biggest win in Women's T20 World Cups in terms of runs. They had defeated Bangladesh by 79 runs in 2014 but got over the line here by 82 runs tonight against Sri Lanka.

Earlier in the match, India won the toss and opted to bat first. The openers found form and gave the Women in Blue a solid start. Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma added 98 runs for the first wicket.

Mandhana scored a fine half-century but got out on the very next ball. She was run out at the non-striker’s end. Next ball saw Shafali Verma losing her wicket, she perished for 43 off 40.

Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur smashed a quick-fire half-century and remained unbeaten on 50 off 27 as India posted 172/3 from 20 overs.

In reply, Renuka Singh Thakur did what she does best, take a wicket with the new ball. She removed Vishmi Gunaratne for a duck.

Shreyanka Patil bagged the prized scalp of Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu in the second over.

Sri Lanka never recovered after that, they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Kavisha Dilhari and Anushka Sanjeewani are the only two batters who got to double figures in an otherwise sorry-looking scorecard for the Asian champions.

A late flourish down the order by Ama Kanchana (19 off 22) helped Sri Lanka Women to get to a respectable total in the end because at one stage, it looked like they will lose by over 100 runs.

Arundhati Reddy, Asha Shobana picked up three wickets apiece while Renuka Singh Thakur got two for 16. Shreyanka Patil and Deepti Sharma chipped in with a wicket each as Sri Lanka were bundled out for 90 in 19.5 overs. With this win, India move up to 2nd on the points table in Group A but they have played a game more than Pakistan and New Zealand. Stick around for the post-match presentation..
