Laura Wolvaardt (South Africa Women Captain): Can't ask for more. It was an all-round performance. Yeah, we did speak about it. Tough to decide what to do at the toss, but we decided to bat first and restrict them. After that powerplay we were looking at 150-160.
The batting coaches is all over that, he has had sleepless nights on our batting order. Basically, we wanted to be ruthless. Happy with how it went.
Yeah, definitely. Everyday is different. Nice to have so many all-rounders and options. Really nice. Massive game for us, need a win after losing the last game. Hopefully, this will give us a lot of confidence."
Kathryn Bryce (Scotland Women Captain): "I think it is just the little moments. We put down a couple of chances that cost us. We were chasing 160 which would have been 140. Then lost a few wickets early and got behind the game.
Yeah, really tough, under that sort of pressure. There are a lot of girls who have not been under that pressure.
I think it is great to share the knowledge with them and learn from them (on having played with a lot of South African internationals). But you also know when you come up against them, it is going to be tough. She (Darcey Carter) got extra bounce and it paid off.
It is going to be tough but back to Sharjah, it is about trying to fix those little things and getting the job done."
Marizanne Kapp (POTM): "Was a little bit nervous at the start there to be honest. We knew the wicket was going to be slow. Luckily it came off. Luckily now, the two day games are out of the way. Today it was the slowest it has been. Luckily we have been working against slow bowling and spin and it paid off.
It is a more confidence thing for me. Bit of a work added in the last year and just backing my strength. Yeah good total, I think we still could have pushed to that 180-190 mark from the start we got. Now we face Bangladesh."
Player of the Match: Marizanne Kapp
6:24 PM IST & 4:54 PM Local Time: South Africa Women thrash Scotland Women by 80 runs to complete a comprehensive win that will give their net run-rate a major boost. Scotland never looked like they'll chase it down and are bowled out for 86 in 17.5 overs. Mlaba was nice again brilliant with her left-arm spin. With this massive win, South Africa go to the top of the points table in Group B. Scotland become the first team to be knocked out of the ongoing T20 World Cup.
Earlier in the match, South Africa Women won the toss and opted to bat first in the scorching heat of Dubai.
The decision worked well as they posted the highest team total of this yearβs T20 World Cup. Four batters got into 40s but failed to kick on and get a big score or else this could have been an even bigger total for the Proteas Women.
They posted 166/5. Openers Laura Wolvaardt made 40 off 27 while Tazmin Brits scored 43 off 35. Anneke Bosch failed with the bat. All-rounder Marizanne Kapp played a quick knock of 43 off 24. Sune Luus chipped in with a cameo of 18 off 13.
In reply, The Bryce sisters were dismissed in a similar fashion by Chloe Tryon. The wickets kept tumbling for Scotland at regular intervals and they were always behind the 8-ball.
Nonkululeko Mlaba picked up 3 for 12 from her four overs. Nadine de Klerk and Chloe Tryon picked up two wickets each while Ayabonga Khaka, Sune Luus and Annerie Dercksen got one apiece. South Africa got over the line without much of a fuss. Stick around for the post-match presentation.
