Time to conclude our coverage from the Women's T20 World cup fixture of Group A between India Women and Pakistan Women where India have defeated their arch-rivals comfortably with six balls and 6 wickets remaining.
For now, this is Saptak Sanyal signing off on behalf of Akshay Bhide and Pritam Dey and our scorer/analyst Raju Khariya. Don't go anywhere as we have plenty of matches in the line for you.
Smriti Mandhana (India Women Vice-Captain): "I think its too soon to say anything, our medical team is working on her so lets see how it goes. (On Harmanpreet Kaur injury)
Well, I think as a bowling unit, we did really well, followed the plans and executed it nicely. As a fielding unit, we have to improve a little bit but happy to get our first win.
(On the NRR) Yeah definitely we did think about it but me and Shafali were unable to time the ball nicely so we tried to be calculative in order to ensure we don't lose too many wickets and put pressure on ourselves, so we wanted to get over the line comfortably.
(On Facing Sri Lanka Women next) Yeah definitely, they are playing really good cricket. For us, this game will get a lot of momentum for us going into the World Cup, so hopefully we keep doing our process right."
Fatima Sana(Pakistan Captain): "We were not up to the mark in batting and that is why we were 10-15 runs short. Hopefully we will do well in the batting order from the next match. I will try to go up in the order.
I'm enjoying my time with these girls. I have enjoyed my time playing against India."
Arundhati Reddy(Player of the Match):"I was prepared for bowling with the new ball in powerplay. Renuka and myself got the going in the initial phase. I have worked harder on my T20 bowling and I've seen that my new ball bowling has got better.
Obviously a day game. It is very humid and hot here but we are very accustomed to this weather as we play a lot of games in these conditions back home. I just tried to stick to the plans and attack the stumps."
Player of the Match: Arundhati Reddy
6:50 PM IST & 5:20 PM Local Time| A comprehensive win for the Women in Blue against the arch-rivals at Dubai who hosted their 100th T20I encounter. India Women have defeated Pakistan Women by 6 wickets and registered their first win in the Women's T20 World Cup 2024.
Earlier in the day, Fatima Sana won the toss and elected to bat first without any hesitation. Pakistan Women did not get off to a good start with the bat, lost two wickets cheaply inside the powerplay.
Harmanpreet Kaur marshalled her troops really well as they kept picking wickets at regular intervals. Post the powerplay, the runs dried up for Pakistan Women who never got going in the Innings with the bat.
Former Pakistan Women Skipper, Nida Dar (28) was the top scorer in the Innings as Pakistan Women were restricted to a low total of 105/8 in their 20 overs. Arundhati Reddy (3/19) was really impressive with the ball and was the pick of the bowlers for India Women. So the target for the Women in Blue was 106 runs from their 20 overs.
In reply, it was a really watchful start from both the Indian openers as they played too many dot balls and failed to score a boundary of the bat in the powerplay. Smriti Mandhana struggle to get going and was dismissed for 7.
The second wicket partnership between, Shafali Verma and Jemimah Rodrigues steadied the Innings for India as the pair added 43 runs together. It was Shafali who threw away her wicket against the run of play, allowing Pakistan Women to get back in the game.
Skipper, Fatima Sana got two back to back wickets to bring a late twist in the game but it was her opposite number who came to the rescue for India Women. A valuable knock of 29 from Harmanpreet Kaur ensure India get over the line. In the final over of the match, Harmanpreet Kaur walked off the field as he suffered with a neck pain.
India Women registered their 6th win against Pakistan Women in World Cup matches. So the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side have picked up their first win in the T20 World Cup 2024 with a 6 wicket win against their arch-rivals Pakistan Women.
