That's it from all of us for this Super Saturday in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024. Keep joining us for more cricketing action all around the globe. It's time for us to take your leave. This is Akshay Bhide, signing off, on behalf of my co-commentators Pritam Dey, AkshayaKrishna Polya and scorer Raju Khariya. Bye bye.
Heather Knight (England Women Captain): "Yeah it was pretty tough out there but really happy to get going. The way Danielle and Maia batted was brilliant at the top of the order and it was a really pleasing performance overall.

Well, I think we prepared ourselves to get 135-140 in that kind of a wicket. We felt short today but we came out hard with the ball. We have to try and minimize the dot balls from the next time.

I was really happy with the total we got. The wicket got lower and slower at the game went on. Yeah very happy for Linsey Smith with the way she bowled and put in that kind of a performance, really proud of that.

Yeah it was a tough decision to pick our 3rd spinner, we watched the first game and we made a late decision to pick Linsey because we thought she would be really crucial in these conditions. We have to be adaptable and we will try to improve in the upcoming games.

(On facing South Africa Women next) Yeah they have a convincing win the other night, they are prepared and they have some fire powers in their side. We have to prepare really well for that game and lets see how it goes."
Nigar Sultana (Bangladesh Women Captain): "Yeah, I think we missed a good opportunity to beat a good side. Our bowlers did a great job to restrict them to that total.

With the way they started in the powerplay, we did well to pull back things.

On these kind of surfaces, it's important to have big partnerships. We didn't get enough runs in the powerplay and that cost us the game. Me and Mostary tried to keep our side in the game but I got out at the wrong time.

Mostary has been doing well. Even in the last game, she batted well and I hope she continues her good form."
Danielle Wyatt-Hodge (Player of the Match): "It was really nice to get out there. Obviously, happy to get the win. Really tough conditions out there.

I thought we did well to get to that total. It was slow and low. It was about staying positive throughout the innings. You had to play shots with great intent.

Every game is going to be challenging. It will be about learning from tonight and what we can learn and take it forward."

10:27 PM IST & 8:57 PM Local Time| England Women have started their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign with a straightforward victory against Bangladesh Women by 21 runs. England Women have defended their lowest score in T20 World Cups.

Earlier in the day, Heather Knight won the toss and opted to bat first. The two England Women openers, Maia Bouchier (23) and Danielle Wyatt (41) got their side off to a really solid start. They added a 48-run opening stand before Maia Bouchier was dismissed by Rabeya Khan.

Bangladesh Women fought back really well post the powerplay and kept picking wickets at regular intervals. Just three double digit scores in the England Women Scorecard. Nigar Sultana operated her bowlers really well as England Women were restricted to a total of 118/7 in their 20 overs.

Danielle Wyatt was the top scorer in the Innings for England Women in a surface which was really slow. For Bangladesh, two wickets apiece for Nahida Akter (2/32), Fahima Khatun (2/18) and Ritu Moni (2/24). So the target for Bangladesh Women was 119 runs from their 20 overs.

In reply, it was a tough ask for the Bangladesh Women against a quality bowling attack of England. The openers got off to a watchful start and failed to rotate strike. The pressure kept building on Bangladesh as the required run rate was climbing up.

The onus was on their skipper, Nigar Sultana Joty who along with Sobhana Mostary added 35 runs together for the 3rd wicket before a brilliant piece of fielding from Linsey Smith and the quick glovework of Amy Jones sent the Bangladesh Women Skipper back to the pavilion for 15.

Since then, Bangladesh Women never got going and lost wickets at regular intervals. 16 overs in total were bowled by spin in the 2nd Innings as it was a comprehensive victory for England Women. Two wickets apiece for Linsey Smith (2/11) and Charlie Dean (2/22) as England Women win their opening game of the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 against Bangladesh Women by 21 runs.
