That's all we have for you from the 2nd Women's T20 World Cup 2024 encounter between Sri Lanka Women and Pakistan Women.
For now, this is Pritam Dey signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Anirudh Modi who, along with scorer/analyst Paras Yadav brought all the actions of this clash. Stay tuned for more cricketing action from around the world.
Fatima Sana (Pakistan Women Captain): "Thanks to all might Allah and to the management, who gave me a lot of confidence. I think when we won the toss, we wanted to put up runs on the board but unfortunately we could not. We scored as much as we could.
Unfortunately, Baig was injured and I was nervous at that time, but I realized I need to bowl and I became calm, I need to check up on her. We want the best momentum from here and we will try to win as much as we can."
Chamari Athapaththu (Sri Lanka Women Captain): "Actually first of all, I would like to congratulate young captain Fatima Sana who performed really well and played really good cricket.
Definitely, we struggled to chase down the target, the conditions was not batting friendly but we cant give that as an excuse to be honest.
We have to learn from our mistakes, dropped a few catches, our bowling department did a good job but we have to bat better in conditions like this.
Actually the approach is going to be important in the upcoming games, we know Australia is a dangerous side but if we play fearless cricket, we can beat any side.'
Fatima Sana (Player of the Match): "I am very excited and credit goes to my team and the management for this win. I believed in myself and backed myself out there, and tried to be calm. We all know Chamari is a good player, we wanted that early wicket and the if we got it, the match would turn in our favor and it did."

10:55 PM IST & 9:25 PM Local Time| Exceptional performance by Pakistan Women who have successful defended a low score against Sri Lanka Women and won by 31 runs. It was a game of two halves pretty much as Sri Lanka were brilliant in the first half of the 1st Innings but Pakistan fought back with the bat in the death overs and since then it was all the Women in Green.
Earlier in the day, Fatima Sana opted to bat first without any hesitation. They did not get off to a good start at all as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals and at one stage they were 8 down for 84.
Sri Lanka were aiming to get Pakistan bundled out to a score under 100 but it was the Pakistan Women Skipper, Fatima Sana to the rescue. Her crucial knock of 30 off 20 balls helped her side reach upto a fighting total on the board. Sri Lanka eventually managed to wrap up the Innings as Pakistan Women were bowled out for 116.
Three wickets apiece for Udeshika Prabodhani (3/20), Chamari Athapaththu (3/18) and Sugandika Kumari (3/19) as it was a brilliant bowling performance from Sri Lanka Women. The target for the Chamari Athapaththu-led side was 117.
In reply, Sri Lanka Skipper, Chamari Athapaththu perished inside 3 overs and it was her opposite number who sent her back to the pavilion. Sri Lanka Women never got going in the run chase and the asking rate was climbing up as the game progressed.
Fatima Sana who is leading her side for the first time in an ICC Tournament marshalled her troops brilliantly as they managed to restrict Sri Lanka to a score of 85/9 and have won the encounter by 31 runs. Just like Pakistan Women in the 1st Innings, Sri Lanka Women also lost wickets at regular intervals and failed to build a partnership.
Sadia Iqbal (3/17) was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan Women as the Fatima Sana-led side have started off their campaign with a win against Sri Lanka Women.
