9:54 PM IST, 5:24 PM Local Time: A swashbuckling knock from Michael-Kyle Pepper has helped Essex win the match from a dire situation.

Earlier in the match, Essex Eagles won the toss and chose to bowl first. Despite losing Harrison Ward early for 15, Tom Clark and Daniel Hughes put on an impressive display for the Hove crowd. Both batsmen scored half-centuries, with Hughes top-scoring with 81 off 43 balls and Clark remaining unbeaten on 72 off 53 balls. Tom Alsop added a quick 27 off 14.

Only Shane Snater and Matthew Critchley managed to take wickets among the Essex bowlers.

In pursuit of 207 runs, Essex lost Adam Rossington (2), Dean Elgar (11), Robin Das (6), and Paul Walter (0) inside the powerplay. However, Michael-Kyle Pepper kept scoring at a rapid pace from the word go and helped his side post 62 runs in the powerplay. Matthew Critchley tried to steady the ship but perished for run-a-ball 13 runs as Essex lost their fifth wicket for 90 runs in the 10th over of the innings.

Pepper paired up with Charlie Allison and the duo turned the game's tide, adding an unbeaten 121 runs for the sixth wicket and helped their side cross the line with 9 balls to spare. Pepper remained unbeaten on 120 runs, while Allison played the second fiddle, remaining unbeaten on 44 runs off 26 balls.

Ollie Robinson bagged three wickets for Sussex, while Tymal Mills and Nathan McAndrew shared a wicket apiece.
