Coming to bat first after losing the toss, Surrey lost Dom Sibley cheaply. But Daniel Lawrence and Laurie Evans batted excellently in the powerplay and the score escalated to 57 for 1 after the first six overs. Evans batted for 20 balls and mustered 41 runs with 5 fours and a couple of sixes. But he got out to Luke Hollman. Later skipper Ollie Pope(15) departed cheaply and the onus was on Lawrence. Hollman didn't let them settle as he removed Lawrence(32) and Rory Burns(0) and Jamie Smith(9) in a single over to claim his maiden fifer in T-20 cricket.
But the experienced Tom Curran helped Surrey to put up a high score on the board. He scored 48 runs from 28 balls hitting 3 fours and a maximum. He got a little support from Jordan Clark(10) and Sean Abbott(9) and for the collective effort from the lower order, Surrey reached 185.
Luke Hollman was the star of the bowling show with his stellar bowling figure of 5 for 16 from 4 overs. Noah Cornwell, Tom Helm and Henry Brookes took one wicket each.
Coming to chase the target, Middlesex started well in the first couple of overs, scoring 23 from it. But the Surrey bowlers made a terrific comeback. Martin Andersson got out for 11 and the collapse started for Middlesex since then. Leus du Plooy(6), Max Holden(0) and Ryan Higgins(7) got out cheaply and skipper Stephen Eskinazi(23) followed them next.
Wicketkeeper Jack Davies put up a fightback but it was nothing as Middlesex was chasing a gargantuan target of 186. Davies hit 4 boundaries on is way to 35 but got out to Sean Abbott who claimed a fifer. Tom Helm played 27 balls, remained unbeaten but could only score 26 runs. In the end, the home side got restricted to 129 runs for 8 wickets, losing the game by 56 runs.
For the visitors, Sean Abbott took 5 wickets for 18 runs and he was instrumental for his side's victory! Gus Atkinson, Tom Curran and Daniel Lawrence took one wicket each for them.
