So, that also brings a wrap to our coverage of the 2-match T20I series between Ireland Women and England Women. For now, this is me Hiren Kumar signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Saptak and scorer Manish Bishnoi. CHEERS!!!
The T20I series trophy is now being presented to the Captains of both the teams as both the teams finish with 1-1.
Gaby Lewis(Ireland Women Captain):"Girls have shown immense maturity in this game. Appreciation goes to Orla Prendergast, she is a world class cricketer. This is a game of cricket. You can win and you can lose. This has been a brilliant chase from the team. We are going to Bangladesh in November for another series. We have a few days off now."
Orla Pendergast (Player of the Match and Series):"It was about to build the innings. I settled myself in the middle and got the start I was looking for. We were trying to have fun and play freely. We batted well to convert the 1s to 2s and 2s to 3s. We did lose the game yesterday and it was some motivation to win this game. I look to be consistent as possible. Thankfully, we have a few weeks off (on her hand injury). It should be fine."
Player of the Match and Series: Orla Prendergast
Kate Cross(England Women Skipper):"It was a brilliant game of cricket. An unfortunate incident happened but Mady did a brilliant job throughout. We came here with an inexperienced team but they showed a lot of character to step up. We had a great tour so far.
I have really enjoyed my captaincy duty. This has been a very enjoyable week."
22:17 IST & 17:47 Local Time | Ireland Women beat England Women by 5 wickets. What a game we have had! The Irish Women register their first ever T20I victory against the English and level the 2 match series 1-1. They are all smiles in the dug out. This is also their highest ever successful run chase.
So, here is how this game panned out.
Opting to field first, Ireland Women were a bit expensive with the new ball and also in the middle overs but did well to pull back things in the death. Orla Prendergast, Arlene Kelly and Aimee Maguire bowled well and picked up 2 wickets each to their name.
With the bat, England started well in the powerplay. Tammy Beaumont was impressive at the top and scored 40 off 34 balls. In the middle order, Paige Scholfield batted nicely and scored 34 off just 21 balls. England will be disappointed as they could not finish the innings on a high after a good start.
Coming to the chase, England started well with the new ball with Cross picking up an early wicket in her very first over. Skipper Gaby Lewis looked solid at the top of the order and scored 38 off 35.
Orla Prendergast came out to bat at 3 and completely changed the course of the game. She was cruising at one point and it looked like the game could get over early. She played an outstanding knock of 80 off just 51 balls.
Ireland did a lose a few quick wickets in the backend but their held their nerves and successfully chased down the total in the end. Nothing much to cherish for the English bowlers today. Kate Cross and Mady Villiers were the pick of the bowlers and picked up 2 wickets each. Stay tuned for the presentations.
