It took us nearly 5 hours to finish this T20 game but we are finally there. Barbados Royals delivered the knockout blow to the Trinbago Knight Riders in a match that was halted for over 2 hours due to floodlight failure. They are through to Qualifier 2 while the four-time champions, Knight Riders, will go home empty-handed.
For now, this is Ajay Pal Singh signing off on behalf of my colleagues AkshayaKrishna Polya and Yogesh Kumar. We will meet again, until then, itβs goodbye from all of us!
Rovman Powell (Barbados Royals Captain): "I think it's the case that we get lucky. We thought we were done for the tournament at some time during the break. Once the light came back on, it was our game to lose. Then, to get 60 off 5 overs, I knew we had a solid chance.
With Quinton de Kock and me opening, the idea was to make full use of the two-over powerplay and score as many runs as possible. We were looking to get around 25-30 runs in that phase of play, which could ease the rest of the innings. It was a case of the experienced guys taking on the powerplay. Credit has to be given to David Miller. He was onto the business and struck from ball one.
It's a difficult one, unfortunate that lights went off. Those things happen. Unfortunate for Trinbago Knight Riders to bow out. Nevertheless, I will take that. Had the lights been on for the whole game, it could have been a beautiful game of cricket.
It's a bright light and it's our blowing department. We were wondering when our luck was going to change. Good that we got little bit tonight. Hopefully, we can play another good game on Friday (Qualifier 2)."
Kieron Pollard (Trinbago Knight Riders Captain): "At that time, we were speaking about what the rules are. What will happen if the lights don't come back on. Obviously the question was asked, but it would have been dangerous for both teams. At the end of the day, the groundstaff did what they have to do to get the game.
You prepare for any circumstances. If rain would have fell, it would have been same scenario. They had to chase 60 and well batted by Miller.
Still proud of the boys. The way guys came and played consistently. If you get 14 points from 10 games, you take that each and every time. Professionalism was shown, we saw the class of Nicky P.
Obviously, it would have been difficult for the Royals to chase but we speak about what we can control.
The dedication and determination he (Pooran) shows, is remarkable. The youth coming into the team knows they have to be determined and committed. The entire team played well, we fought till the end so I am proud of them."
David Miller (POTM): "Yeah, I suppose so! A few came off the middle. Nice feeling. Only five overs chase, you don't have any option.
We had a lot of chats. A lot of thoughts as well. We were talking about the lights, wondering if it would be back on. Thankfully, it came back on in the nick of time.
60 in five overs, you have 11 batters and you'll need to target every single ball, it feels nice that it came off. We had no option and were pretty thankful for it coming off.
It's a sort of Quarter-final. It's always big stakes. It didn't add up to the World Cup final. We are just happy to do really well at the backend in five overs and it was just an extraordinary game. It was a situation where we thought we weren't going to play and were happy to end the match on a winning note.
We now move to the semis. We have played well at times and badly, but we hope to take the momentum into the semis (Qualifier 2) game. I wasn't well, but thankfully, it's over now, and we'll look forward to the next match."
Player of the Match: David Miller
9:03 AM IST & 11:33 PM Local Time: That's it! Barbados Royals get the job done in a shortened run chase. David Miller played a blinder of a knock, remaining unbeaten on 50 off 17 to deliver the knockout blow to Trinbago Knight Riders. The Royals had to chase 60 from 5 overs but Miller's brilliance meant they finish the chase with four balls to spare.
Earlier in the match, Trinbago Knight Riders skipper Kieron Pollard won the toss and decided to bat first in the knockout game.
Sunil Narine was dismissed in the first over. Jason Roy and Nicholas Pooran put on a 52 runs for the second wicket before Roy lost his wicket.
Pollard and Pooran then added 47 runs for the 3rd wicket. Pollard was dismissed for 17 off 19 but Nicholas Pooran remained unbeaten on 91 off 60 before the floodlights went off and ended the Knight Riders' innings at 168/3 in 19.1 overs.
There was a delay for a couple of hours because of the floodlight failure. With just minutes left before the cut-off time, the lights came back on and we got a 5-over chase.
The Royals were tasked to chase 60 from 30 balls. They got 13 runs from the opening over of Sunil Narine but at the expense of Quinton de Kock's wicket.
Rovman Powell skied one in the air in the next over and was taken by Chris Jordan in his follow through but the England pacer overstepped and gave a new life to the Royals skipper.
Powell finished that over with a maximum and then the David Miller show started from the other end as he smashed the bowlers to all parts of the ground and got to his half-century off just 17 balls.
Miller finished the game with a couple of maximums and took the Royals into the second Qualifier.

17-ball fifty for David Miller and that is the end of the road for Trinbago Knight Riders in this year's CPL. This is the 3rd fastest half-century in the CPL.
6 SIX MORE!!! DAVID MILLER GETS TO A WHIRLWIND HALF-CENTURY OFF JUST 17 BALLS! BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, HE HAS SEALED THE QUALIFIER 2 SPOT FOR THE ROYALS AS THEY WIN THIS ELIMINATOR BY 9 WICKETS! Full and outside the off stump. Again Hinds misses his mark. Miller needs no second invitation to go after it. He gets down on one knee, gets underneath it and extends his arms. Goes inside out with a lovely execution of the lofted extra cover drive. It lands in the crowd. Miller punches the air in elation and Powell congratulates him for this match-winning knock. TKR bow out of the competition despite Nicky P's heroics with the bat!
Miller takes the Royals on the brink of a win. Smashes an 88m monster into the stands.
4.1 T Hinds to D Miller
6 SIXXXX!!!! IT DOESN'T MATTER IF THE BALL HAS BEEN CHANGED; DAVID MILLER WILL KEEP YOU SMASHING IF YOU MISS YOUR LENGTH! Barbados Royals are close to knocking out TKR! Over the wicket. Full and outside off. Miller reaches it and hacks it across the line over mid wicket for an 88m six. What shot this is! The Royals need only 2 to win now!
