We have one league match left in the competition, with Guyana hosting the Knight Riders. Its safe to say that the defending champions have secured the pole position with the win over the Kings today.
For now, this is me AkshayaKrishna Polya, signing off on behalf of my commentators Pritam Dey and Deepak Prakash, who, alongside our scorer/analyst Paras Yadav, brought you all the live action of this mouth-watering fixture. We will meet again. Until then, its cheers!
Imran Tahir (Guyana Amazon Warriors Captain): "Yeah, again and again. I just want to say thank you to everyone who's come out to support us over the years. It’s a great feeling playing in front of the home crowd. Getting over the line in front of them is really satisfying.
Yeah, the surface has obviously been different. Some pitches grip more, but the last two played really well. I think we have the luxury in the team of having three or four spinners. We’re just trying to adapt to the situation — when I need to bowl, when Moeen needs to bowl when Motie needs to bowl.
Having a combination like that makes my job as captain easier, but you still have to play smart. That’s what we try to do in every game, adapting to different situations. If I need to bowl, I step up. Otherwise, Moeen and Motie are there. It’s really pleasing that everything is coming together nicely.
Look, every game is important, whether it's for a franchise team or for the guys playing for their country. So, it's another opportunity for everyone. We’re not going to take it for granted. They’re a very good team, and obviously, we want to win at home. That’s the mindset we’re taking into the game. And, yeah, we’re really looking forward to the challenge."
Daren Sammy (Head Coach of St Lucia Kings): "Yeah, well, it just cramps for Faf du Plessis. Hopefully, it will not affect him or us in the long run during this tournament. Yeah, I am here.
We are one of the best fielding sides in the competition, but we gave the players many chances. Giving chances to good players means that they will make you pay for it. We were not diligent enough. Today, we were a bit flat, and we took a long time to adjust to the surface.
That was really important. Halfway, we said it made no sense to get that total, but we wanted to get closer to the total. Guyana was the better team today, but we were happy with how we managed to get 170. We tried to get as close to the total as possible, we scored 60 runs in the last 4 overs. From 7-15 overs is key in this tournament and we and Guyana are the best in that regard.
If you had asked me about finishing second at the start of the tournament and lose only 3 games, we would have taken it. We need to be on our toes in the playoffs. I'm looking forward to it."
Shimron Hetmyer (Player of the Match): "I think it's just the mindset. I think I am trying to be as clear as possible and enjoy my game. To be honest, we just choose our bowlers, we don't really talk much as we have played a lot together. I think it's nice to play here at home, my wife and kids are here as well."
Player of the Match: Shimron Hetmyer

11:23 PM IST and 13:55 Local Time: Guyana Amazon Warriors with a dominant performance in the penultimate match of the season to bash St Lucia Kings by 35 runs and regain the top spot!
Earlier in the day, Guyana won the toss and opted to bat first. Openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz (26 off 22) and Azam Khan (26 off 11) provided a solid base with a 49-run stand for the first wicket before both were dismissed inside the powerplay.
Shai Hope (56 off 31) and Shimron Hetmyer (58 off 30) hit half-centuries and played some audacious strokes in the 85-run third-wicket partnership to set a nice platform for the batters to come. Romario Shepherd (24 off 16) slammed a quick cameo, but a few quick wickets tumbled in the late stages of the innings. Despite this, the Amazon Warriors posted a massive 207/7 in 20 overs.
David Wiese (3/43) was the pick of the bowlers for St Lucia Kings with a three-wicket spell, while Alzarri Joseph ()2/39 and Noor Ahmad (2/26) grabbed two wickets each. Good outfield catches defined the quality of the fielding in the process.
It was always a mountain to climb and St Lucia Kings kept on loosing the wickets, with Guyana Amazon Warriors kept on attacking the visitors with spin. Only Faf du Plessis held an end up and scored an unbeaten 92 off 59 balls, hitting 7 fours and 4 sixes. The St Lucia skipper was down with cramps but still smashed the bowlers left, right and centre to keep the franchise fighting till the end despite them losing wickets at regular intervals.
Du Plessis got support in the form of Joseph (25* off 21) as the duo added an unbeaten 8th wicket stand worth 67 runs to push the team's score to 172/7 in 20 overs.
For Guyana, it was all spin to win with Gudakesh Motie (2/27), Moeen Ali (2/21) and Imran Tahir (2/20) picking up a couple of wickets each, while Junior Alvin Sinclair (1/31) grabbed a solitary wicket before being taken for 27 runs in the final over of the fixture.
