Time to conclude our coverage from the 25th match of the CPL 2024 where Trinbago KnightRiders defeated the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots by 7 wickets. For now, this is Saptak Sanyal signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Ayan Chatterjee and our scorer/analyst Ghanendra Singh Thakur.
Kieron Pollard (Trinbago Knight Riders Captain): "Yes, of course. Disappointed not to win last game. But we bounced back. The score was 190 odd and the pitch was good. We came out all guns blazing. The batters came out all guns blazing on a good track. Lot of dew and winning the toss was important for us.
Challenging wickets challenge you a lot and prepares skill set. Jason Roy played well and the other pitches were challenging and the Brian Lara Stadium was different and glad to see him being an overseas player performing so well.
Yes, the crowd has been magnificent to support us. They support us all the time and cannot thank them enough. We have two more games here and would like to entertain them by getting the wins. Thank You."
Andre Fletcher(St Kitts & Nevis Patriots Captain):"I am pleased to be honest with my performance. People remembers the last thing to do. I am happy to help my side post a good total. We are on the other side of the victory but it is a normal thing in cricket
Ya Kyle batted really well. Our fielding could've been better. We dropped too many catches and when it happens in this type of competitive tournaments, it is not going to help you.
Yes, we had a bad tournament. Our team environment was good as we had a lot of team bonding activities but the results didn't reflect on the field. I want to finish by apologizing to the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots fans. I know you expected better from us. I know you are hurt, so am I. Hopefully we will do better in the next season."
Nicholas Pooran (Player of the Match): "First of all, thanks to Jesus. Yes, nice feeling to stay till the end and play so well and get over the line. I got a lot of chances and made the most of it. Happy to play a big innings after getting starts earlier on.
Yes, we always have a great partnership and he was saying I made poor decisions earlier on and should be mindful of it in the coming matches. He emphasized that I should play through the innings and play like this."
Player of the Match: Nicholas Pooran.
08:30 IST and 23:00 Local Time | Nicholas Pooran has helped the Trinbago Knight Riders side to take it home by 7 wickets and with 9 balls remaining. St Kitts & Nevis Patriots have finished the season with a defeat and their horror season comes to an end.
After being sent to bat first, SKNP lost Evin Lewis in the very first over. But Kyle Mayers started to wreak havoc on the TKR bowlers. He reached 50 in just 18 balls with Andre Fletcher anchoring the innings. He eventually scored 60 facing 30 balls with 8 fours and 3 maximums. Andre Fletcher started to play the aggressor's role after Mayers got dismissed. He got a little assistance from Rilee Rossouw, who scored 20 runs off 11 balls with 4 boundaries. Fletcher, the Spiceman reached to his fifty and eventually continued to score 93 from 61 balls with 4 fours and 6 maximums. He accelerated a lot in the later part of the innings.
For the Trinbago Knight Riders, Chris Jordan took a couple of wickets. Akeal Hosein and Jayden Seales took one wicket each.
Coming to chase the run, Jason Roy used the powerplay very well despite having the struggling Keacy Carty at the other end. Carty got out for 13 and Pooran started his innings with 12 runs from his first 5 balls. Roy on the other end, smashed the bowlers to score 64 runs from 34 balls with 6 fours and 4 maximums.
Nicholas Pooran got dropped 4 times by the SKNP fielders as they showed an exhibition of catch drops. He eventually reached 50 off 32 balls. The asking rate was 12 in the 17th over and Pooran started with two maximums. Later Pollard hit another maximum to take 21 from that over. Pooran hit two maximums and a boundary in the first three balls of the next over bowled by Nortje. The equation was down to 9 from the final two overs and TKR won the game at ease. Pooran remained unbeaten on 93 from 43 balls with 6 fours and 7 maximums.
For the SKNP side, Tabraiz Shamsi, Anrich Nortje and Kyle Mayers took one wicket each.
Stay tuned for the post-match presentations.
