Milestone
Time to conclude our coverage from the 24th match of the CPL 2024 between St Lucia Kings and Barbados Royals. For now, this is Saptak Sanyal signing off on behalf of my colleagues Ajay Pal Singh and Bishal Mandal.
Faf du Plessis(St Lucia Kings Captain): "Ithink the surface was best today. We expected to be the worse in the morning and we looked to get 130-140 but once we got that big over, it helped us in going. We did well to get 160 over. We could've pushed hardto score 15 runs more but happy to get the total. Our bowlers did really well. Spinners were top-notch. Extremely proud.

I think we were down in the powerplay. The damage was done and I gave the message to control the damage and put a limitation. Spinners came in the middle overs and restricted the run flow with wickets.

Ackeem is just 5-6 games old in this competitition. He looks like a proper player to the spin. I told the management that he might be a good candidate to go to subcontinent for the longest format. In my opinion, players grow up when they are exposed in a crucial situation. May be a few semifinals and finals will do for him."
Rovman Powell (Barbados Royals Captain): "I think it is a case of too many runs. We gave away 60 in last four overs. These things do happen so not too bothered. We knew powerplay was going to be important. Once the ball gets old and becomes soft, scoring runs become tough.

Credit to the boys we started well but faltered in the middle. Rakh couldn't open because of his knee problem. Good to see Kadeem getting the opportunity and showing what he has got.

Big game for us and big game for Guyana up next."
Johnson Charles: "We played yesterday, we saw it was slow and turning a bit. The plan was to hang around and capitalise when it was your matchup. It was something I had to put into my game. No secret left-armers were giving me tough time so have to evolve (on switch hit). It is still a work in progress but I am getting there.

To be honest, I'm at the point of my career, where it is about experience taking over, on these sort of wickets it is about absorbing pressure and then taking it from there."
Player of the Match: Johnson Charles
23:06 IST and 13:36 Local Time | St Lucia Kings were reeling behind after the powerplay in their defence but their spinners brought them back in the game and they have won the contest by 13 runs eventually.

Batting first in this game, St Lucia Kings lost their skipper and opener Faf du Plessis for just 4. But Johnson Charles was firm in his stay as he played shots all over the ground. Johnson Charles however scored 53 runs from 42 balls. Ackeem Auguste played well in his innings as he rotated the strike. Roston Chase failed to score big as he got out for 12.

Ackeem Auguste got himself retired hurt and it was a tactical change to bring in David Wiese. Tim Seifert hit the ball well to muster 45 runs from 25 balls. His innings was instrumental in keeping SLK in the game by helping them to go past the 150-run mark. David Wiese played a valuable cameo off 11 from 5 balls.

Maheesh Theekshana, Keshav Maharaj and Nyeem Young took a wicket each for the Royals.

Coming to chase the run, Barbados Royals were up and running from the very first over as Quinton de Kock and Kadeem Alleyne took on the bowlers in the powerplay. They together put 57 runs in the powerplay and just when the target was looking a cakewalk, Quinton departed for 22 off 13 balls.

Rahkeem Cornwall came to bat next and he continued his torrid form. He wastes 12 balls to score only 3 runs. His approach made Kadeem Alleyne slow too. The latter got out for 47 off 25 balls with 4 fours and 3 maximums. In the middle overs, the SLK spinners ruled over the Barbados batters. David Miller and Alick Athanaze struggled against them. Miller got out for 21 off 22 balls with 2 fours and a maximum. Alick Athanaze played most of his innings watchfully but he changed the gears when pace was offered to him. He hit a maximum against Joseph to help his side take 12 from the 17th over. Jason Holder scored 16 from 13 balls and as the Royals could only muster 34 runs in the last five overs and lost wickets regularly, they fell flat by 13 runs.

For the St Lucia Kings, Noor Ahmad was the star of the bowling show picking 2 wickets for just 20 runs. Alzarri Joseph and David Wiese shared four wickets between them. Khary Pierre and Mikkel Govia took a wicket each.

Stay tuned for the post-match presentations.
