That is the end of a nail-biter from the CPL opener. I am AkshayaKrishna Polya, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Ajay Pal Singh and scorer/analyst Ashok Dayma, who brought you all the live-action of this mouth-watering battle. We will meet again. Until then, its cheers!
Andre Fletcher (St Kitts and Nevis Patriots captain): "I am happy that we won this game, but at the same time, I will say we had soft dismissals. We took the game away from them in phases and brought them back in the game as well, that's something we have to look at.
In the powerplay anything can happen, the game actually starts after the powerplay. That's why we brought in Shamsi, and spinners pegged them back.
I want us to be positive, and at the same time, we have to be smart and enjoy each other's success. Once we do that, we have the personnel to win games."
Chris Green ( Antigua & Barbuda Falcons captain): "We were 10 to 15 runs short on a good surface. We had a great start with the bat in the powerplay, but we scored just 14 runs off the next four overs.
I am proud of the way we fought in the backend. Here, we had to use the dimensions and the breeze. Mayers batted deep for them, and he is a good player.
We were way behind and nearly pulled a rabbit out of the hat.
Jewel Andrew is 17 years old, and he is a local icon. I was impressed to see him bat the way with that confidence and swag. It is awesome to see. He will only go from strength to strength.
Shamar Springer has improved again from last season. Incredible in the field too."
Kyle Mayers (POTM): "It was nail-biting in the end. It was tough, but we were patient. In the end, we were hoping to cross the line. I had a look at the pitch. I knew how it played. My job was to stay there.
My mindset was simple. It was a good wicket. I thought if we batted 20 overs, we would get over the line. I played the ends. The breeze was to my advantage, and I tried to take my chances but unfortunately, I got out.
I am enjoying the new colours. Great atmosphere. I know most of the guys here. A few of them I have played with and against. Fletcher, as skipper, we are very close to each other."
Player of the Match: Kyle Mayers
9:15 AM IST & 11:45 PM Local Time: Anrich Nortje wins it for St Kitts & Nevis Patriots on the last ball of the match. Two South Africans in the middle finish the game for the Patriots. They had only one win last season and here they started with a thrilling win.
Earlier in the match, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots won the toss and decided to bowl first. The decision looked fine when Anrich Nortje knocked over Teddy Bishop.
Fakhar Zaman teed off and made 43 off 32. Handy contributions came from Kofi James (22) and Sam Billings (18) but it was the 17-year-old Jewel Andrew, who scored an unbeaten half-century to take the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons to a competitive total of 163/4 from their 20 overs.
Anrich Nortje, Dominic Drakes, Ashmead Nedd and Tabraiz Shamsi all picked up a wicket each.
In response, Evin Lewis and Andre Fletcher added 37 runs for the opening wicket. Kyle Mayers top-scored with his knock of 39 off 24. Tristan Stubbs failed with the bat, scoring only 2 runs off 7 balls.
There was a mini colapse in the lower middle order but Tabraiz Shamsi and Anrich Nortje held their nerves to finish the game on the last ball of the match.
Shamar Springer stood out with the ball, finishing with figures of 4/29 from his four overs. Roshon Primus picked up 2 wickets, while Mohammad Amir and Chris Green chipped in with one each.

1 ANRICH NORTJE HOLDS HIS NERVE AND WINS THE GAME FOR ST KITTS AND NEVIS PATRIOTS! They win by one wicket in the final ball of the match! Back of a length on the stumps. Nortje walks down the pitch and gets enough power behind the flat-batted stroke over the head of the bowler for a single. What a thriller to kickstart the CPL 2024!
