Right so, that brings down the curtains on our coverage of this T20 International between Ireland and Scotland from the Voorburg Cricket Club, The Hague, Netherlands. For now, it will be myself, Soumarya Dutta, signing off on behalf of Pritam Dey and our Scorer/Analyst Yogesh Kumar. See you soon!
PLAYER OF THE MATCH: ANDREW BALBIRNIE
Ireland are the potential winners of this T20I Tri-Series after this win against Scotland. Even if they lose their final game against Netherlands tomorrow, they would still win the Tri-Series by 1 point. Congratulations to the Irish side who have won the T20I Tri-Series with a game to play!
17:50 IST and 14:20 Local time - It was a nerve wrecking finish in the end and it got way too close for Ireland's comfort! Gareth Delany did get the Irish over the line though with a single down to mid on and they've won this game by five wickets with three balls to spare. Ireland were cruising for the greater part of the chase except for the final few overs and it has been a really good win for them. It will help them to solidify their chances for automatic qualification for the 2026 T20 World cup.
Ireland got off to a superb start in the powerplay and they set the tone for the run chase. Skipper Stirling went hell for leather early on as he smashed a couple of fours and sixes en route his knock of 32 of just 21 balls. Balbirnie took his time but he found the boundaries at crucial stages and once Stirling had been dismissed by Greaves, he was joined at the crease by Tucker.
Balbirnie and Tucker got Ireland to more than 87 at the halfway mark and they continued to pile on the misery. Balbirnie got to his 50 but was dismissed after that by Sole in the 16th over! The fast bowler came back in the 18th over again and struck twice to get Scotland back into the game. Tector threw his wicket away and Campher was cleaned up. It left the job of getting Ireland home on the shoulders of Tucker and Dockrell.
The bowlers had a really tough game and they were taken to the cleaners for the greater part of the game. Chris Sole fought hard as he picked up three wickets for 28 runs and Greaves was the only other bowler to get a scalp. The rest of the bowlers, including the spinners Leask and Watt failed to make any breakthroughs. It cost Scotland in the end as they found it too hard at the back end of the game.
19.3 S Sharif to G Delany
1 That's the winnings runs for Ireland. Length ball around middle and leg, Delany tucks it to mid-on, goes for the quick single, the fielder has a shy at the non strikers end and a direct hit was close again. Ireland have won the game by 5 wickets.
