Milestone
Well that's it from the second T20I folks! Hop tabs to join our coverage from other cricketing action from around the world! This is Anirudh Modi, signing off along with my co-commentators, Ajay Pal Singh and Saptak Sanyal, and our scorer/analyst Paras Yadav! See you on the next one!
Josh Inglis (Australia Captain): "We were not too sure of the total. The boys started really well and through the middle it was tough when they started adapting with the cutters and slower ones. There are so many options I can go to in this team, bringing Spence back in the middle and they bowled really well. There have been tough times in the summer for our openers but the way they played tonight was special and got us off to a flier. I need to sleep, the captaincy is tough, it's a quick turnaround from today, we will go to Hobart tomorrow, see the wicket and carry on from there. I was thinking more about the captaincy than keeping, I am hoping to learn and grow more."
Mohammad Rizwan(Pakistan Captain): "If you see the whole match you will see a lot of positives. Haris Rauf bowled well but if you drop crucial catches, it will cost you. Playing Australia in Australia is a tough job. 16 guys who got the opportunity has performed. Haris has been brilliant for us. He has bowled brilliantly. Spencer Johnson also deserves a special mention. I am not sure about making any change in the side. We have a couple of guys who can perform. We will see it later."
Spencer Johnson (POTM): "It is every kid's dream to play for Australia. It is an opportunity I don't take lightly and I feel very privileged to be wearing the Green and Gold. (On coming back from injury) I think, you never know when your last game will be for Australia. I guess every game is a bonus. Hopefully, I can play a couple more. Yeah, unbelievable. It is probably a different bowling unit then what we are used to see for Australia but I guess we are doing a good enough job. (on bowling with Ellis, Bartlett, Zampa) Yeah, I think we used the conditions pretty well. It was summed up early with the way Bartlett how he was nipping it around. I probably did not get it right in the first over but I think the communication we had between us was probably what helped us get over the line."
Player of the Match: Spencer Johnson
Lowest Target Successfully Defended by Australia in T20I: 1) 128- vs Pakistan (Melbourne, 2010) 2) 142-vs Bangladesh (Bridgetown, 2010) 3) 148-vs England (Melbourne, 2011) 4) 148-vs Pakistan (Sydney, 2024)*
Adam Zampa: "It's a great night at SCG. One of the best places to play cricket. After a disappointing ODI series, it feels great to win the T20 series. I watched the batting in the first innings and the pitch was getting harder to bat as the game progressed. So my idea was to attack the stumps. Spencer has pace and he can hit the right areas. He is very impressive. We don't overdo things and keep everything very simple in the change room. We don't feel like a B team here."
5:16 PM IST & 10:46 PM Local Time: That's it. Australia have sealed the series with a game to spare. It was another clinical performance from the hosts and the Pakistan top-order just did not turn up in the T20I leg of the tour. Xavier Bartlett and Spencer Johnson were lethal with the new ball and they helped the Aussies to seal the series with a game to spare. Earlier in the match, Australia won the toss and opted to bat first. Matt Short and Jake Fraser-McGurk went berserk in the first three overs and got the hosts off to a flying start. Australia got to 50 in 3.1 overs but then Haris Rauf brought Pakistan back into the contest by taking two wickets in his first over. Handy contributions from Glenn Maxwell (21), Marcus Stoinis (14), Tim David (18) and Aaron Hardie (28) helped Australia to 147/9. With the ball, Xaviert Bartlett removed Babar Azam early in the piece. Sahibzada Farhan too fell cheaply, scoring just 5 runs. Agha Salman bagged a golden duck but Usman Khan kept Pakistan in the hut with a fine half-century. Soon after reaching his milestone, Usman perished, taking Pakistan's hopes of staying alive in the series with him. Irfan Khan Niazi played a cameo down the order but he did not get enough support from the other end as Pakistan were bowled out for 134. Spencer Johnson was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with career-best figures of 5/26. Stay tuned as we'll be back with the post-match presentations.
