That's it from our coverage of the opening fixture for the WODI series between Australia and India. Ninaad Dixit here signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Akshay Bhide and scorer Dushyant Madhukar Kumar. Stay tuned for more action from around the world.
Tahlia McGrath (Australia Women Captain): "It was important for us to start the series on a high today. My job was very easy. The bowlers were unbelievable, fielders outstanding and then Volly was wonderful on debut.
Its nice when plans come off, when bowlers execute and fielders back them off. We executed really well and couldn't be happier. Its Voll's composure and confidence for me. Opening the batting on debut and play some shots like that from ball 1, special talent.
Chasing low totals is tricky, we tried to be aggressive. Looks like a tricky wicket to bat on so coming up with some ideas for how we can get big totals or chase them."
Harmanpreet Kaur (India Women Captain):"We bowled pretty well today. There weren't enough runs on the board but the bowlers did well and tried hard. We were able to take five wickets.
Few of us got starts in batting but we couldn't take it in the end. We can work on our partnerships and get a good total on the board. We have to reflect on these things before the next game.
We had to adapt to the conditions and the pitch. We have to keep a total in mind if we are batting first. We have to see how we have to bowl if we are bowling first. We have a clear idea now and we will try to come with a positive mindset in the next game."
Megan Schutt (Player of the Match): "Yeah little bit. I got the rewards with the way Kimmy bowled at the other end.
Nice. I haven't thought about it to be honest. But to pick five wickets is great.
Really good. We have come together after a while. We love each other's company. It's nice to get together earlier.
Probably recovery. Will have some ice bath. Will have some good food and get ready for the next game.
I feel Allan Border always attracts good crowd. Really special to play in front of big crowd."
Player of the Match: Megan Schutt
2:08 PM IST, 6:38 PM Local Time: Australia seize victory in the first ODI of the series defeating India by 5 wickets in a low scoring encounter at the Allan Border Field in Brisbane.
India won the toss in the series opener and opted to bat first. Megan Schutt ran through the Indian lineup with her career best figures of 5/19 to dismiss the women in blue for just 100 with Jemimah Rodrigues top scoring with 23.
Phoebe Litchfield and debutant Georgia Voll started off in emphatic fashion against whatever loose deliveries they received from the Indian seamers adding 48 runs in 6.5 overs before being separated by Renuka Singh Thakur.
Thakur found her mojo late in her first spell and removed Litchfield, Ellyse Perry and Beth Mooney in the space of 8 deliveries to finish with 3/45 in 7 overs. Voll continued batting with her attacking intent hitting 6 fours and a maximum in her unbeaten debut innings of 46 in 42 balls.
Leg spinner Priya Mishra chipped twice in her mini 2-over spell removing Annabel Sutherland and Ashleigh Gardner but India never had enough runs to offer any resistance despite doing a very fine job with the ball.
The entire game lasted for just 50.4 overs with 202 runs scored and 15 wickets taken. The sides will return on Sunday for the 2nd ODI.
