Milestone
A terrific series comes to an end! There was plenty of drama and plenty of action. Five Test matches are a heavy workload, and it was an absolute paradise for the cricketing nerds. Time to take a heavy breather for both sides. Australia just managed to win those little moments in different phases of the series after bowing to the visitors in Perth.

Jasprit Bumrah just couldn't take the load anymore as the tour Down Under came to the climax. Pat Cummins now has nearly all the silverware in the cabinet and will have a few days off before the Sri Lanka tour. India will fly back home and has a white-ball caravan against England before the Champions Trophy.

So, that will wrap up our coverage as well. I am AkshayaKrishna Polya, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Ajay Pal Singh and scorer/analyst Bishal Mandal, who brought you all the live-action of this third and, eventually, the final day of the SCG Test and the five-match series. We will meet again. Until then, its cheers!
India started this tour with plenty of promise. The win in Perth almost made the visitors favorites to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. In the next game, the combination changed with the return of Rohit Sharma and India lost the pink-ball Test as Australia leveled the series 1-1.

With the help of rain and contributions with the bat from Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep, India avoided the follow-on and managed to salvage a draw in Brisbane to keep the series at 1-1, going into Melbourne. Soon after the 3rd Test in Gabba, Ravichandran Ashwin dropped a bombshell, announcing his retirement from international cricket.

In the 4th Test, India had to bat out a little over two sessions to get another draw but in the final session, India lost seven wickets and lost the game in front of a record crowd. The visitors dearly missed the experience of Ashwin on a track where he would have enjoyed bowling.

The visitors were under all sorts of pressure coming to Sydney for the final Test. Days before the game, a report came out in public that the head coach had blasted his players in the dressing room for being too casual with their approach. Rohit Sharma ruled himself out of the series decider owing to poor form. Jasprit Bumrah led the team in his absence but his back gave up on him. Bumrah bowled over 50 overs in MCG and he was clearly not 100 percent coming to Sydney.

Defending a modest total of 162, India missed the services of Bumrah and the new ball bowlers were all over the place. This allowed Australia to gain early momentum and they did not look back after that.

India missed the chance to make it to WCT final for the third time in a row while Australia have qualified for the final for the second time on the bounce. With this series win, Pat Cummins now has almost all the major silverware available to captains.

Australia will defend their WTC title against South Africa at Lord's from June 11.
Australian great Allan Border hands over the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to Pat Cummins. The Australian skipper calls his teammates to the stage as they celebrate the triumph and take some selfies.
Pat Cummins (Australia Captain): "(on the feeling of winning BGT) Oh unreal. This one is one of those few of us didn't have. I have got my eyes on it for the last couple of years, it lived up to all the hype.

Just being really clear with our plans. We ticked all the boxes. We knew it will be a tricky wicket. Wanted to minimise the runs. The batters had a good method, ultimately it worked out.

Immensely proud, we knew we were not at our best in Perth. I absolutely love playing alongside these guys.

Yeah, it has been such a special group. We feel so privileged to have achieved what we have. Really proud. We are also having the best times of our lives. It is always nice.

Yeah, it is always nice, we always talk about needing a squad in these 5-Test series. You can't play the same 11. 3 debutants in the series. All contributed to at different times. Beau on his debut match was magnificent.

Pretty happy with how I played throughout the series. I was lucky to get a break before the series. Happy with how I played.

In some key moments, some of our main stays stood up, you need that against India. (on Steve Smith and Travis Head)

That's right. It will go down as my favorite series to play. Credit to Rohit and Jasprit. The fans have made this series. MCG was great, and there were three sellouts in Sydney. It is such a special day in the calendar. It is something I grew up with. We are celebrating such a great cause."
Jasprit Bumrah (POTS and India Captain): "Frustrated to miss out. Sometimes, you have to respect your body. You can't fight your body. Disappointing, I probably missed out on the spiciest wicket of the series. Felt a bit of discomfort during my second spell in the first innings.

The chat was about belief. Other bowlers stepped up with one bowler short in the first-innings. So, they had an extra responsibility in the second innings. The chat this morning was about the same thing; about having belief and showing character.

A lot of ifs and buts. The whole series was fought hard. We were in the game today as well; it's not like a one-sided series. It was a well-fought series. But that is how Test cricket goes on.

It was about being in the game for a long time. It was about creating pressure, absorbing pressure, and playing to the situation, which are all important.

A lot of experience and learnings. A lot of the younger players have come in, and the learnings will help us in future. They have gained a lot of experience, and they will go from strength to strength. It is all about adapting and learning. We want to take what we learn forward. They’re disappointed that we haven’t won.

It was a great series. Congratulations to Australia. They had fought really well. We will take the learnings and move forward."
Player of the Series: Jasprit Bumrah
Scott Boland (POTM): "Yeah, it has been a really enjoyable couple of months. Probably didn't think I would play too much part in the series but I was prepared. We had a lot of quality fast bowlers in the country. I was a bit nervous. But worked hard on my body in the gym.

To win 3-1 against India, hasn't been done in a while. I am happy playing whenever I can."
