Laura Wolvaardt (Hero of the Match, Manchester Originals Women)- "I feels great! It wasn't the easiest of the surfaces to bat on and the ball wasn't really coming on to the bat early on. I decided to play myself in as I knew that we had a lot of batters to come later on who could play the big shots. "
Laura Wolvaardt (Manchester Originals Women) - Hero of the Match.
10:11 PM IST, 5:41 PM IST Local Time: Laura Wolvaardt, take a bow!!! What a knock she has played for the Manchester Originals Women. She remains unbeaten on 78 off 52 balls to take her side across the line with two balls to spare with six wickets in hand. Wolvaardt plays a match-winning knock against the defending champions Southern Brave Women who are in a bit of a pressure as they fail to win a game in this edition of the Women's Hundred.
Chasing 137, the Manchester Originals Women lost Beth Mooney cheaply on two early in the innings. Laura Wolvaardt was joined by Evelyn Jones as both started building a partnership. Wolvaardt played some beautiful shots. Both Wolvaardt and Jones kept ticking the scoreboard and took their stand past 50. Georgia Adams broke the 80-run stand by dismissing Jones on 39.
Sophie Ecclestone scored seven off three balls before falling to her opposite number. Fritha Morris was run out on a silver duck. Wolvaardt kept fighting from the other end. She refused to give up and took the game to the last set. Her knock of 78* comprised 11 beautiful boundaries which helped the Originals grab their second win of this year's competition.
Earlier, the Southern Brave Women were asked to bat first. They had a solid start, thanks to their openers Maia Bouchier and Danielle Wyatt. Both played beautiful shots and made full use of the fielding restrictions. Both put 51 between them before Bouchier departed on 24. There was no stopping Wyatt as she continued playing her strokes and received a good support from Charli Knott.
Wyatt brought up her fifty off 38 balls. She along with Knott stitched a 68-run stand for the second wicket. Sophie Ecclestone dismissed Wyatt (61) and Knott (27) in the 18th set. The Brave Women lost the momentum before Chloe Tryon played a cameo of six-ball 13 which helped them get to 136/5 at the end of their innings. Ecclestone grabbed two scalps for the Originals Women. Wolvaardt then played a match-winning knock to help the Originals Women win the game by six wickets.
