That's it from our coverage of the Group C encounter between West Indies and New Zealand. Ninaad Dixit here signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Akshay Bhide and scorer/analyst Bishal Mandal. Stay tuned for more cricketing action from around the world.
This was New Zealand's 3rd successive defeat in T20 World Cups (including the loss in 2022 semi-final against Pakistan).
Rovman Powell (West Indies Captain): "I am very happy. We found ourselves in some trouble but thank you to the crowd in Trinidad. We knew someone would have to play a blinder because we knew it wouldn't be an easy wicket because of the inclement weather that we've had.

We believe individual brilliance is needed in T20 cricket sometimes and it was a fantastic knock from Sherfane Rutherford.
We watched what the New Zealand bowlers did well and tried to replicate that.

We knew the hard length was difficult. At the halfway mark we sat down as a group and talked about our pacers hitting a hard length and our spinners trying to turn the ball."
Kane Williamson (New Zealand Captain): "It was good. We had a good start but we knew it was going to be tricky on that surface. You have to find a way to go through. The quality of Sherfane's innings was way high and he took them to that total. It was frustrating for us.

We know their batting strength. We took the aggressive option to take that wicket. T20 is full of small margins and it didn't work out for us tonight.

Santner can bowl against the left-handed batters. We have full trust on him. There was a bare area and he got some purchase from it. But two and three balls here and there and you go on a journey.

The conditions are tricky here. We need to keep getting better. We have to keep finding ways to get better in this tournament.

We need to bounce back quickly. We will be off for a couple of days before we come back. The effort was there but the conditions are here as they are and we have to adapt to them quickly."
Sherfane Rutherford and Gudakesh Motie put 37* for the last wicket which is the highest for the 10th wicket in Men's T20 World Cups.
