That's it from our coverage of this clash between Oman and Scotland. The Scottish side is now leading a group that includes powerhouses of world cricket like England and Australia. This win by Scotland over Oman makes things tricky for England as now they have to win big and hope Australia beat Scotland to qualify for the Super 8.
This is Ajay Pal Singh, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator AkshayaKrishna Polya and scorer/analyst Zeeshan Naiyer. We will be back with more World Cup action tomorrow, until then cheers!
Richard Berrington (Scotland Captain): "Obviously, very pleased with our performance. It was important to come out today; we have gotten ourselves in a good position. It was always going to be important on this wicket. The spinners did a great job in the middle.
It was more of the right lengths to hit. We were happy at the halfway stage with the score to chase. We just wanted to get a win to start the game. Then, we were in a position to go after the net run rate. We wanted to pick up wickets and we did that in the first innings.
It was the first game on this ground, and it was important to get a good start. That partnership at the top between Brandon McMullen and Munsey got us in a strong position, which was really important for us. Great to see Brandon get a score today When we are in a strong position, we need to enjoy this moment.
Another big game to come."
Aqib Ilyas (Oman Captain): "Yeah, the thing is it was a good toss to win. But this was a wicket where we could have scored 170-180. When the ball is not in your area, you have to rotate the strike. We couldn't execute well with the bat.
Even 150 was a good target but if we keep missing catches, 4 catches were dropped of the same batter and he made 60 odd.
Pratik played well, he is a good player. Still we have the last match coming up, we have to take the positives from this and come prepared against England. We have quality players but it is about handling the pressure well.
We have to back our players, stay positive. If you compete against England and beat them, it is all about ending on a good note."
Brandon McMullen (POTM): "It was tough out there, good to get the win for the team. It was quite a short boundary with the breeze; we discussed it as a group as a key element, and it paid off.
Not sure where it came from, I played hockey as a kid and I think it helped me play that shot.
The first priority was to win the game. We had a chat about the net run rate during the drinks break. We then shifted our mind to go for the net run rate.
We are now confident going into Australia's game. Nicely stationed at the top of the points table at the moment. We have done well so far in this group. As our great Chris Sole quotes, we will always raise the bar high and stay level-headed."
PLAYER OF THE MATCH: Brandon McMullen
1:15 AM & 3:45 PM Local Time: That's it Scotland have defeated Oman by 7 wickets and it has been a clinical performance by the Richie Berrington-led outfit. They go to the top of the points table in Group B with 5 points from three games.
Earlier in the match, Oman, after opting to bat posted 150/7 in their 20 overs. Pratik Athavale was the leading run-scorer for Oman with a knock of 54 off 40.
Scotland came out all guns blazing and George Munsey and Michael Jones teed off from the word go. Munsey was the star, he made 41 off 20 and killed the game in the powerplay.
But it was Brandon McMullen who stole the show with his unbeaten 61off 31 to help Scotland finish the 151-run chase with 6.5 overs to spare.
Richie Berrington and Matthew Cross also played little cameos to help Scotland boos their net run-rate by finishing the game quickly.
Stay tuned for the post match presentation and thoughts of the both the skippers after this exciting contest.
