8:00 PM IST, 3:30 PM Local Time: Was it a poor batting display from Zimbabwe in the afternoon session, or a strong comeback from the English bowlers? Either way, Zimbabwe were bowled out for 255 in their second innings, as England wrapped up the four-day Test with a victory by an innings and 45 runs.
Ben Curran and Sikandar Raza resumed for Zimbabwe in the afternoon session. While England had struggled with the ball in the morning, managing their first wicket just before the lunch break, it took them only eight balls after the interval to strike, with Bashir trapping Curran for 37. Wessly Madhevere joined Raza at the crease, and the duo scored at nearly a run-a-ball to build a 50-plus-run partnership. However, an acrobatic catch from Brook sent Madhevere packing for 37 in the first half of the session. Zimbabwe lost wickets in clusters during the afternoon session. Raza (60) brought up his fifty, but with no support from the other end, he too perished while attempting big shots. Shoaib Bashir wreaked havoc with the ball for the Three Lions, picking up six wickets in the innings to wrap up Zimbabwe for 255. For your information, Richard Ngarava, who was unfit, did not come out to bat in the second innings either.
Earlier in the Test, Zimbabwe won the toss and opted to bowl first, but the decision didn’t pay off as the hosts piled up a mammoth 565/6 in 96.3 overs before declaring—continuing their aggressive approach in Test cricket.
