Milestone
A series that had plenty of ups and downs with Pakistan holding their nerves in crunch moments. They would be satisfied with this series white wash against Afghanistan before the Asia Cup that begins on 30th August. I am AkshayaKrishna Polya signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Ayan Chatterjee (1st Innings) and scorer/analyst Zeeshan Naiyer, who brought you all the live-action of this final game of the three-match series. We will meet in the next game. Until then, it's cheers!
Babar Azam receives the trophy and now the whole Pakistani squad pose for the photographs.
Babar Azam (Pakistan Captain): "Thank you again! Yeah, now, we are the number one ranked ODI side. Credits go to the boys, all of them have been doing the hard yards. The players went across to participate in the leagues after the Test series (versus Sri Lanka). We had a small camp ahead of the series in Lahore. The management and the boys have to get the credits for this.

Absolutely, Afghanistan have one of the best spin-bowling attacks in the world. This series should help us in the Asia Cup.

The conditions were not easy for the batting in the first innings. Rizwan and myself tried to rebuild with a cautious approach and decided to take the innings deep.

We had a good bench strengths and a great bunch of players. We tried different combinations. In a couple of days, we have our first match in the Asia Cup. So need to take this momentum to it.

(On getting mocked for his statement of Saud Shakeel making his debut during the toss) Haha (Starts with a chuckle). See, Saud has been a great player of the spin. He is selected for the Asia Cup. That was what I said after going into the dressing room following the toss. Everyone said that Shakeel had already played and I just smiled (a weird one). Yeah, he is a good player of the spin and has done well so far."
Hashmatullah Shahidi (Afghanistan Captain): "Ahh... The pitch was a bit different today than it was in the previous one. We made the same mistakes in the batting. We will definitely work on it.

There are a lot to learn from this series. We know what is coming our way in the Asia Cup and World Cup. As I said, our batting has been poor and at some part, our fielding was poor as well.

See, the bowling, especially our spin-bowling is very good. I am really happy with their performance. Our opening batters, especially Gurbaz have been brilliant and doing well. The middle-order needs to take responsibility and needs to step up. We will work on that part. A few injuries for us moving into the series and we missed some players there."
Imam-ul-Haq: "Thank you. It is about the process. Tough conditions to bat on. We need to assess the situation and bat so on. In these tracks, it becomes difficult to bat in the first 30-35 overs. They have a quality spin attack. Sometimes you need to run hard, especially in Hambantota where it had longer boundaries.

The management planned that and it worked. I have listened to my chachu (uncle) as well. He always says that the usage of feet becomes very important while playing the spinners. You should move the back leg against the spinners and it worked very well for me. I am really happy at the moment.

My fielding hah! I will first thank my management and the fielding staff. We have been working hard. It is an important phase in the game and we are really concentrating on it. Fielding well gives me confidence and will try to improve moving forward."
Player of the Series: Imam-ul-Haq
Mohammad Rizwan: "Thank you. Absolutely. It was a tough wicket. We had a meeting earlier in the morning that around 240 would be a par score. The wicket was very difficult to bat on. We stuck to our basics and we played the way we do normally. After losing the openers, we assessed the pitch and batted accordingly.

We had taken a good inputs from Imam-ul-Haq, who has been playing here since LPL. He has a great knowledge of how the pitch exactly plays here.

It's really difficult to apply yourself. Sometimes you get to play against the new ball, sometimes it grips and turns and at some stages, you need to accelerate."

11:32 PM IST and Local Time: Final presentations of the series...
11:16 PM IST and Local Time: Pakistan white-wash Afghanistan in this 3-match ODI series and leapfrog Australia in the ODI rankings to stick onto the pole position with 119 rating points.

Afghanistan were never really there in the run chase of 269 and have been knocked over for 209 in 48.4 overs. Riaz Hassan (34 off 66) and Shahidullah Kamal (37 off 65) contributed with a scratchy-looking 30-plus scores in the top seven. Afghanistan were reduced to 75/6 at one stage and a brisk cameo from Rashid Khan got them closer to the 100-run mark.

But the real highlight came from Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who batted at number 9, came out of the syllabus and tonked a blistering half-century. He scored 64 off 37 balls, hitting five 4's and 6's each and became the fastest to hit an ODI half-century from Afghanistan. Mujeeb added a couple of good partnerships with Kamal (57 for the 8th wicket) and Fareed Malik (45 for the 9th wicket), taking the side to a respectable position before becoming the first Afghanistani batter to get hit wicket.

Shadab Khan was the successful bowler with figures of 10-1-42-3. Faheem Ashraf bowled a terrific first spell and finished with figures of 8-1-43-2. Shaheen Shah Afridi was excellent once again in all phases, finishing with 9.4-0-31-2. Spinners Mohammad Nawaz and Agha Salman grabbed three wickets in between them.

Earlier in the day, Babar Azam opted to bat first on a tricky surface with both of the Pakistani openers throwing their wickets away after getting into starts. The come back man Gulbadin Naib was brilliant and removed both of them, finishing his afternoon with figures of 9-1-36-2.

Babar Azam (60 off 86) and Mohammad Rizwan (67 off 79) played ultra-cautious innings and the experienced duo added a slow but a stable partnership of 110 runs for the third wicket, setting the platform for the upcoming batters. Both of them got past their respective fifties.

A few wickets followed once the partnership was broken by Rashid Khan (10-1-42-1) in the 37th over. But a very good recovery from Mohammad Nawaz and Agha Salman in the end, adding a 61-run stand for the 7th wicket helped the side get past the 250-run mark. While Nawaz got out for 30 off 25 balls, Salman remained unbeaten on 38 off 31 balls taking Pakistan to 268/8 in 50 overs.

Fareed Malik picked a couple of wickets despite being expensive. Mujeeb Ur Rahman had a great day in the office with figures reading 10-2-50-1 with Fazalhaq Farooqi getting one to his name as well.

This series win should bolster the confidence of Pakistan before moving to the mega event. On the other hand, there is plenty to work for Afghanistan ahead of the Asia Cup which is just a few days away from its beginning.

Stay tuned for the post-match presentations!
48.4 S Afridi to Malik
W WICKETTT!!! That's it. Done and dusted! Pakistan seal the deal with Shaheen knocking the number 10 over. A low full toss at the off-stump. Malik shuffles across and misses the scoop completely, getting beaten for pace. The bowler doesn't miss his mark and hits the off-stump to finish the series with a 59-run win in the final ODI.
48.3 S Afridi to Malik
0 DROPPPED! Seriously? Around the stumps. Length ball outside the leg stump. Malik clears his front leg and heaves getting a good piece of it. High in the air and Nawaz at deep mid-wicket makes a mess of it. Times his leap perfectly but fails to grab the catch. Meanwhile, the batters don't cross ends as well.
48.2 S Afridi to Malik
0 Length ball outside off. Fareed backs away and loses his shape looking to reach for it.
48.1 S Afridi to Malik
0 Shaheen Shah Afridi is back for his final burst. Over the wicket. Back of a length outside off. Malik shuffles across for a scoop but is way too late to make a connection. Loses his balance and falls down onto the ground.
