Soumya Sarkar (Player of the Match): "I took time to settle on the crease and I am happy with my performance but unfortunately we lost the match. I had a good partnership with Raim and Miraz but they got out at the wrong moment and that made the difference. We could have scored a bigger total had they not been out at the wrong time. For me, the pull shot over mid-wicket was my favorite shot."

Bangladesh remains winless in New Zealand as the top order of New Zealand did the job for them.
In pursuit of 292 for the win, New Zealand got off to a rolicking start courtesy of openers Rachin Ravindra and Will Young. Ravindra was the aggressor of the two. He scored 45 off 33 balls as the openers put on 76 for the first wicket. Ravindra fell, but Young carried on his merry ways and was ably supported by Henry Nicholls. The duo of Young and Nicholls put on 128 for the second wicket. Young scored 89 before he was dismissed while Nicholls scored 95 and missed out on his hundred as well. Nicholls and Latham had a good partnership of 56 as well for the third wicket. Later on, Tom Latham the skipper steered his side to victory with 34* off 32 balls while keeper batter Tom Blundell scored 24* off 20 balls and hit the winning runs in the end. 9 extras given by the fielding side.
Bangladesh bowling lacked penetration and never created pressure on the New Zealand batters. They were good only in patches. A couple of wickets for Hasan Mahmud and a wicket in the end for Shoriful Islam. Mehidy Hasan Miraz bowled economically, but lacked in taking the wickets as he gave away 45 runs in 10 overs. All in all, a listless bowling performance from Bangladesh.

But only one man stood tall and that was the left-handed opener in Soumya Sarkar who scored a majestic 169 off 151 balls and almost stayed till the end. He now has the highest score by a sub-continental player on New Zealand soil. He has the second highest individual score by a Bangladeshi player in ODIS. He lacked support from the other end. Mushfiqur Rahim played well for his 45 and gave him support. Hridoy got into double figures. Mehidy Hasan Miraz scored 19 while Tanzim Hasan Sakib scored 13 off 11 balls. 12 extras given by New Zealand as Bangladesh were eventually bowled out for 291 in 49.5 overs.
