For now, this is Ayan Chatterjee signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Deepak Prakash alongside scorer/analyst Zeeshan Naiyer. Stay safe, happy and cool.
Dasun Shanaka (Galle Titans Captain):"Yeah, absolutely a much-needed victory for us in terms of getting qualification in the eliminator. Rajitha started well and Lahiru Kumara also bowled well.
There were some extra runs on there, but still, the wickets have been playing differently here. So in Pallekele, it exactly played the way we wanted. It was good cricket to see everyone scoring high runs in a competition like this, so yeah, I think it's slightly better if we can make good pitches for a tournament like this.
See, Litton is here as a replacement for the team. Maybe it will help, but Tim and Chad Bowes the energy they bring up to the team, it's a different kind of thing for us.
Yeah, see, one game at a time. So we had clear plans coming to this game, especially against Jaffna. They got a heavy batting lineup, so plus the next game too. So we're going to plan in the same way. And we wanted to execute those plans tomorrow."
Thisara Perera (Jaffna Kings Captain):"If you see the fresh wicket, we thought of batting first. But I feel something is wrong with our players. The batting let us down and we needed 150 to be in the game. The bowlers are doing the job. So, the first six overs we are struggling and we have to improve in that. We have to wait and see and other results going our way. It was one of those days for us. Just got to hope for us. Thank You."
Kasun Rajitha (Player of the Match):"Actually, I was focusing to hit the right line and length. Shoaib Malik's wicket was the most important wicket for me as he is a world-class batter, and I enjoyed his wicket."
6:04 PM IST & Local Time: Time for the post-match presentation.
5:57 PM IST and Local Time: So, a comprehensive win for the Galle Titans as they thrash the Jaffna Kings here by 7 wickets with 6.3 overs to spare. They have outplayed the defending champions in all facets of the game and break their 4-game losing streak. They keep their hopes alive for the playoffs while Jaffna had a miserable day in the office.
Chasing a paltry score of 90 for the win, Galle Titans got off to a steady start before Bhanuka Rajapaksa gave his wicket away for his 15. Tim Seifert almost played through the innings and top scored with an excellent 55 off 42 balls, his third LPL fifty this season. Chad Bowes remained unbeaten on 13* off 23 balls as the victory target was achieved in 13.3 overs. 3 extras were given by the fielding side.
Jaffna Kings were defending a low score and the bowlers could hardly do anything. A wicket apiece for Maheesh Theekshana, Dilshan Madushanka, and Shoaib Malik in the end. But it was a bit too late in the day for the Kings today.
Earlier in the day, Jaffna Kings won the toss and decided to bat first and lost wickets at regular intervals. It was a nightmare for them. Only Dunith Wellalage looked good as he top scored with 22 off 31 balls. Skipper Thisara Perera scored 13 off 9 balls. Maheesh Theekshana remained unbeaten on 13* off 23 balls while Dilshan Madushanka scored 12 off 29 balls. 4 extras were given by the fielding side.
Kasun Rajitha was the pick of the bowlers for Galle Titans as he finished with exceptional figures of 4/20 in 4 overs. A couple of wickets for Lahiru Kumara and Tabraiz Shamsi both of them kept it tight and a wicket for Shakib Al Hasan who bowled a miserly spell as well. All in all, a great performance from the Titans bowlers and the batters completed the formalities. It looked like they were the only team that turned up for the match today. Jaffna were never really in it.
So, a win for Galle Titans by 7 wickets with 6.3 overs to spare and they keep their hopes alive in the competition. Stick around for the presentations.
13.3 S Malik to D Shanaka
2 That's it, Galle Titans return to winning ways after losing 4 games on the bounce. Tossed up on the stumps. Shanaka lofts it towards the vacant cow corner region and returns for the second run to finish the match.
W In the air and taken by Miller! Tossed up on the off-stump line. Shakib tries to loft it over the long-off but loses his one hand off the bat in the process and the ball flies to long-off where Miller runs in and takes a good tumbling catch.
13.1 S Malik to Hasan
0 Around the wicket. Flighted delivery on the off-stump line. Shakib presses forward and defends it.
