11:37 PM IST: Time for the post-match presentation.
11:31 PM IST: That’s it. Game. Set and Match. Murtuza Trunkwala finishes things in style. The Chhatrapati Sambhaji Kings register their first win of Maharashtra Premier League 2023 as they beat the Solapur Royals by seven wickets. With this, the Solapur Royals have been knocked out of the competition and Puneri Bappa qualify for the playoffs.
The Chhatrapati Sambhaji Kings lost Onkar Khatpe on a duck in the very first over while chasing 141. Saurabh Nawale looked good for his 16 before falling in the fourth over. They had a steady start as they were 39/2 at the end of the powerplay. Swapnil Chavan along with Murtuza Trunkwala tried to build a partnership but the required run rate crept up and Chavan departed on an 18-ball 17.
Trunkwala was going strong from one end and kept the scoreboard ticking. The Royals’ spinners bowled beautifully in the middle phase and the boundaries dried up. Trunkwala teed off with the required run rate reaching 10. He played some fantastic shots and was well-supported by Om Bhosale from the other end. They put a brilliant partnership and kept the Royals at bay. Trunkwala and Bhosale remained unbeaten on 67 and 34 respectively as the Kings chased down the total with seven balls to spare. Prathamesh Gawade grabbed two wickets for the Royals but it wasn't enough as they failed to defend the total.
Earlier, the Royals were asked to bat first. They had the worst possible start as they lost their top three batters on single-digit scores as they reeled at 15/3 in the fifth over. Skipper Vishant More along with Rushabh Rathod led the recovery work. Both stitched 46 between them before More was run out on 21 in the 10th over. Rathod looked solid at the crease and played some good shots.
Atharva Kale (23) provided support to Rathod but fell while trying to up the ante. Rathod brought up his fifty before falling in the last over on 55. Mehul Patel played a good cameo of 22* off 11 balls to take his side to 140 at the end of 20 overs. The Kings picked up six wickets in total and completed a very good performance with the ball. Their batters then stepped up and chased down the total to register their first win of the tournament.
