CREX Player of the Day: Mitchell Starc

Mitchell Starc was fantastic yet again with the new ball for Australia. He dismissed both the Pakistan's openers with the new ball. He returned for his second spell and got rid of Sarfaraz Ahmed. He registered figures of 3/31 in his nine overs, which included two maidens. He is the CREX Player of the Day.
Pat Cummins (Australia Captain): "A great start to the summer. Everything went according to the plan and I couldn’t be more happier. We have played a lot of cricket in this part. Everyone is experienced and know how to play here.

Warner and Usman’s partnership in the first innings did the job for us on day one. Davey was fantastic. Mitch is one of the favorites in the West. He just took the game on and put pressure on the bowlers as he always does.

(On Nathan Lyon's 500 Test wickets) That’s huge. 500 Test wickets, all over the world, different conditions. That’s huge. Great to see him back after the calf injury and really happy for him.

We are getting home for a few days. Maybe get together on 22nd or 23rd. But it’s a nice time of the year where you get to the homes and spend some time with the families."
Shan Masood (Pakistan Captain): “When you come to these shores, you look for progress. The things we could have done well against this quality attack. We could have pounced on the starts.

The bowling was good. A lot of plays and misses but that’s how it goes. We can take the learnings from the Australian team on how to be disciplined. We have got 15 wickets but we can learn and try to take 20 wickets to win the game. We have enough time before the next game.

It's not easy to have 2 debutants. But they had a lot of overs under their belt and on other days, they could have gotten more wickets. Aamer bowled well in the first innings and I’m proud of them. I’m sure they will improve in the next game."
Nathan Lyon: "Yeah. Thanks. I’m really proud of me. For a young kid to be growing up in the New South Wales, I wouldn’t have dreamt of it but to get 500 Test wickets is amazing. Thank you so much. Means a lot.

(On the dismissal) I was pretty confident about it. Everyone said the height was okay. Once it came out, it was great to see three reds. Doesn’t matter where we are, 500 wickets is great. To be here and contribute to the win was fantastic.

Yeah. 100%. We know the class of the big three quicks. The way Usman and Mitch played on that tricky card, the credit goes to them. To be around with these three quicks, it is such a dream. I love playing cricket for Australia and I haven’t taken it for granted. But I got some time to reflect it and really proud of the guys.

I’m 36. It’s still a long way to go. Can’t put a number but I’ll continue as far as I’m enjoying. I just try to get better each day. I don’t know, I came down and my family and wife are here. We have to recognize this good win. A hundred from Warner and an all-around effort from all of us."
