2:18 AM IST | An inspired bowling performance from Derbyshire Falcons lifted the side to their second victory of the season after Wayne Madsen continued his purple patch with another excellent innings. On the other hand, this will hurt Warwickshire as they face their first defeat of the season. Derbyshire were put into bat by Moeen Ali of Warwickshire. The top order comprising Haider Ali, Luis Reece and Wayne Madsen chipped in perfectly as they added handy partnerships for the first couple of wickets. Reece scored 14, while Haider amassed a scratchy 32. It was Madsen and Tom Wood who did the major damage. While Madsen smashed his fifth 50+ score this season and was unbeaten on 71, Wood was the finisher playing a nice cameo of 39 runs. The duo added 79 runs for the 4th wicket and took the team to a big total. For the bowling side, Glenn Maxwell bowled superbly and picked up two wickets. Henry Brookes was taken to the cleaners as he conceded 47 runs in his four overs but picked a wicket. Craig Miles was the other wicket-taker.
Chaisng 175 for the fifth straight win, a star studded unit like Warwickshire would do it on many days. But tonight, it was the bowlers of Leus du Plooy-led side that starred in their victory. Warwickshire lost 4 wickets in the Powerplay and it was down to Glenn Maxwell to steer the ship. Maxi (29 off 22) tried his best but he was holed out in the 20th over leaving the Bears reeling at 66/5.
Dan Mousley (36 off 33) and Ed Barnard (27 off 20) tried to rebuild with an attacking partnership of 49 runs for the 6th wicket but once this stand was broken by Zak Chappell it was a mountain to climb for the visitors.
Wickets fell regularly in the back end of the innings and Warwickshire were restricted down to 157/9 as Derbyshire won the match by 17 runs. For the bowling side, Chappell and Zaman Khan scalped three wickets each while George Scrimshaw and Mattie McKiernan bagged a wicket each.
W WICKET!!! Knocked him over!!!! Third wicket for Zaman Khan and what a way to finish the match. Nails the yorker this time and Lintott was bamboozled by it. He exposed his body a bit and there was good amount of gap between the bat and the pad. Lintott tried to jam it but plays outside the line.
19.5 Z Khan to H Brookes
1 Full and straight at the stumps and Brookes tips and runs for a single. Just a touch towards short covers region and hurries.
19.4 Z Khan to H Brookes
0 Short ball goes over the batter who ducks underneath the bounce and lets it alone.
19.3 Z Khan to H Brookes
2 Length and outside the off stump line. The batter swots it towards backward point region and the fielder does a shambolic fielding, kicks it away a bit and allows a double this time.
19.2 Z Khan to Lintott
1lb Full and down the leg stump line. Lintott looks to flick and gets beaten. The duo hurries for a quick single as leg bye.
