4:14 PM IST | Melbourne Renegades did everything right tonight on the field as they edged past the challenge of Sydney Thunder by 8 wickets with 5.4 overs remaining!

Earlier in the match, Melbourne Renegades won the toss and opt to field first. The Renegades bowlers proved their captain’s decision right as they ran through the Thunders’ batting order. Sydney Thunder batters didn’t turn up as they ended up getting all-out for 95 in exactly 20 overs.

For the Girls in Green, only Tahlia Wilson, Sammy-Jo Johnson, and Belinda Vakarewa scored in the double digits. On the other hand, all five bowlers of the Melbourne-based franchise scalped wickets. While Georgia Prestwidge picked three wickets, and Sarah Coyte and Elli Hayward scalped two wickets, Shabnim Ismail and Hayley Matthews finished with a wicket each.

Chasing the small total, Melbourne Renegades opener Chamari Athapaththu didn’t open her account as Sammy-Jo Johnson gave Thunders’ a ray of hope of defending this total. But a partnership of 42 runs for the second wicket between the skipper Hayley Matthews and Josephine Dooley lifted the side and put them in a better position.

Once Dooley got out, Matthews and Courtney Webb didn't allow any other hiccup as the duo took care of the rest of the runs with an unbeaten 54-run partnership for the third wicket to clinch a comprehensive win.

With this win, the Renegades move up from their bottom place!
14.2 S Johnson to Matthews
4 FOUR MORE! It's all over! A beautiful cover drive to end the game. Full and outside the off stump. Matthews is on the front foot and elegantly finds the middle of the bat driving through the cover fielders. Not a single fielder tries to move a muscle as the well timed stroke fetches Matthews yet another boundary and a victory as the skipper.
14.1 S Johnson to Matthews
4 FOUR!! Matthews wants the game to get over quickly. Full around the off. Matthews plays it through covers for a four.
