Milestone
That's all we have for today from this fixture, which took quite some time to commence. Do join us for the upcoming matches in the tournament. Until then, it's me, Ajay, along with my fellow commentators Saket and Badal and scorer Zeeshan, signing off. Goodbye!
Bismah Maroof | Pakistan Skipper: "It's a sigh of relief as we wanted a win quite badly. We had some close games but were not able to cross the line. The credit goes to everyone. We would now want to move onwards and upwards from here. Our plan was to enjoy the game, and not think of the result. Muneeba did great. Omaima and I wanted to finish the game. We have been vocal about our mistakes in the camp and would like to go ahead using the momentum we've attained."
Stefanie Taylor | West Indies Skipper: "When Matthews was coming off she said 125 was a good score on this wicket. Once I got in, I thought even 110-115 would do it but we failed to get there. Spinners choked us a bit and we were not able to rotate strike. I thought they bowled well, Dar bowled fantastic. They did their homework well and now we go to South Africa with a hope to play over best cricket which we are yet to play."
Nida Dar | Player of the Match: "Thank you so much, we desperately needed this win and all the girls were ready for the contest. I was only thinking about bowling on the good areas, I played my role today so I am happy about it. As a senior campaigner, I know I am like a role model and I try to work on it and work in the pressure situations. Of course you know my favorite player is Shahid Afridi and Shaheen Shah and I try to base my celebrations on them, this was a big win for all the girls, this was desperately needed and we all wanted the win and this win goes to the fans at home who were watching this game!"
The Pakistan batters were never unsettled by the opposition's bowling attack. Since the target was below par, there was no urgency to go to it, either. While they lost the wicket of Sidra Ameen early in the chase, a steady innings by Muneeba Ali ensured there were no hiccups in the middle. Skipper Bismah Maroof and Omaima Sohail, with their knocks of 20 and 22, respectively, made sure Pakistan reached the target, albeit in the 19th over of the innings.
Pakistan have finally registered a victory. And it comes after so much drama. The close games against South Africa and Bangladesh, then the rain drama throughout today kept Pakistan away from a win for long. And, if that's not enough, stats reveal this is Pakistan's first win at the World Cup in 13 years as they break a long losing streak of as many as 18 games. Maroof and Co have all the reasons to celebrate tonight.
18.5 S Selman to O Sohail
1 Pakistan have done it here, they have won it. Full length delivery on the pads of the batter who goes for the sweep gets a top edge down to deep square for a single.
18.4 S Selman to O Sohail
0 Good length delivery outside off stump, Sohail swings and misses here, the ball goes between the bat and pad to the keeper.
18.3 S Selman to B Maroof
1 Full length on the stumps as the batter plays it toward mid-on for a single.
