We started with Canterbury winning the toss and deciding to bat started off really good with a firing partnership of McClure and Bowes putting on 75 for the first wicket in just 8 overs. And from there on Henry Nicholls toke the responsibility and was not out on 49* till the end with Matt Henry who played a great knock of 23 off just 9 balls and took the team score to 173/6. First, one ten overs Canterbury took charges but soon after that Otago bowler comeback well and took 5 wickets in quick succession, and even at one moment it even looked like Canterbury won't be able to cross the 165 mark but thanks to the partnership of 34 between Henry and Nicholls.
Taking about the Second innings Otago came to chase 173 started well by the captain Rutheford who hit 3 consecutive in the second over but apart from him no batter could do much. Wickets tend to tumble on the other hand. Kelly showed some intent but wasn't enough and a bad show of batting from Otago apart from their captain who scored 62 off 48 balls but couldn't get his team home.
Taking about Canterbury bowling that too was good with Matt Henry leading the pack with a figure of 2/19 of his four overs. Great day for Matt Henry and Astle bowled really well took 2/25 and a couple of wickets for Shipley too and one for Nuttall. Overall a team performance from Canterbury. But for Otago, they need to look into the negatives and look forward to the next match.
Jatin-A comprehensive win for the Canterbury in the end by 36 runs giving them valuable 3 points and moving up in the point table. Otago needs to look into the concerned area and work hard and get things right for the team and come up better in the upcoming games.
