That's all from the commentary box folks. It was a pleasure bringing all the live commentary and match updates for the final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Till the next time, it's adieus from me, Arya Sekhar Chakraborty and my fellow commentators Anurag Dasgupta and Somya Kapoor.
Arya: Earlier in the day it was UP who won the toss and elected to bat. It was a good start from the Mumbai bowlers as they never allowed UP‘s opening duo to go after them. Both Madhav Kaushik and Samarth Singh bide their time and eventually started cutting lose in the middle overs. Despite a sluggish start, UP didnt lose a wicket till the 26th over and it was only in the death overs that Kaushik went hammers and tongs and reached a well-deserved 158 to take his team to a big total of 312 runs. Mumbai’s bowling performance wasn’t that great but in the end the target proved to be way too less in the end.
Arya: Tare went onto play one of his best knocks and the it was more special because it came in a crunch final. He found the gaps to perfection and the UP bowlers had no answer infront of a brilliant knock from the stumper. Eventually towards the fag end of the innings, it was a quickfire stand with Shivam Dube who smashed some lusty blows and made sure that they didnt had any hiccups while reaching the target. Though Dube was dismissed at the dying moments of the game, by the then the match was already in Mumbai’s pockets.
Arya: His ultra-attacking approach eventually brought about his downfall but he had already set the tone for the run chase. Following the dismissal of Shaw, the onus was now on the experienced campaigner Aditya Tare to take tings forward. He never looked in any discomfort what so ever and played a stunning knock which ensured that Mumbai reached the victory target at a canter.
Arya: It proved to be a thoroughly convincing all-round performance from Mumbai as they thrashed Uttar Pradesh by 6wickets in the final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy to lift the title for the fourth time in their history. What a show, a grand batting performance ensured Mumbai reached the victory target of 313 with 9 overs to spare. The start was again provided by Prithvi Shaw who led a charmed life at the start and then went onto make amends. He continued from where he left at Palam the other day and it was strokeplay from the highest order. After a knock of 73 of a mere 39 deliveries which was studded with 10 fours and 4 sixes.
Arya: That's the end of the match and a it's a fitting way to see the winning hit from the blade of Aditya Tare. The players are rushing onto the field and the celebrations will go on.
Somya: WHAT AN EXCEPTIONAL RUN CHASE this has been from Prithvi Shaw and Co. They have thoroughly dominated the runchase sparing more 8 overs in the process...MANY MANY MANY CONGRATULATIONS to the Mumbai side and especially Shaw who had some disappointing run before coming into this tournament...But he has turned around it for himself...Highest run-getter in the history of Vijay Hazare trophy and now the captain of the winning team. A lot of credit goes to UP as well for their brilliant performance...Well played !!!
