Player Bio

Zak Foulkes is one of the most exciting young fast-bowling prospects to emerge from New Zealand in recent years. A right-arm medium pacer with the ability to swing the ball both ways, Foulkes has quickly transitioned from domestic cricket to the international stage with impressive ease.

What sets him apart is not just his control with the ball, but his ability to deliver impactful performances early in his career.

Zak Foulkes’ Early Life and Background

Born in Christchurch, Zak Foulkes grew up in a cricketing environment. His father and brothers were all involved in the game at the regional level, making cricket a natural path for him from an early age.

Interestingly, Zak Foulkes initially started as a top-order batter before gradually evolving into a pace-bowling all-rounder — a transition that would define his professional career.

Zak Foulkes’ Domestic Career

Zak Foulkes’ domestic journey has been a well-rounded rise across formats, beginning with Canterbury in 2022. He first broke into the senior setup through List A cricket in the Ford Trophy, before quickly making his First-Class debut in the Plunket Shield the following month.

In First-Class cricket, Zak Foulkes established himself as a dependable wicket-taking bowler, using swing and discipline to trouble batters consistently.

In List A cricket, he showcased his ability to control the game with the ball, contributing both with early breakthroughs and economical spells in the middle overs.

It was in T20 cricket, however, where Zakary Glen Foulkes made his biggest impact early on. To further his development, he gained valuable overseas experience through T20 leagues in England and Australia.

Zak Foulkes’ International Career

Zak Foulkes made a rapid transition from domestic cricket to the international stage, breaking into the New Zealand setup in 2024. Since then, he has featured across all three formats, quickly building a reputation as a dependable pace option.

Foulkes announced himself in spectacular fashion in Test cricket, delivering one of the most memorable debuts in New Zealand’s history. He made his ODI debut in November 2024 against Sri Lanka. Although his first match was cut short due to rain, he gradually settled into the format over the following months.

He made his Test debut in August 2025 against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo, producing a record-breaking performance. Across the match, he picked up nine wickets, including a five-wicket haul, finishing with remarkable match figures that set a new national record for the best bowling performance on debut.

Throughout 2025, he became a regular part of the ODIs, contributing with both wickets and control in the middle overs.

In the shortest format, he has shown versatility as both a bowler and a lower-order contributor with the bat. His ability to chip in with quick runs at a high strike rate adds value to his role in the team.

Zak Foulkes’ IPL Career

Zak Foulkes entered the IPL setup ahead of the 2026 season when he was signed by the Chennai Super Kings for his base price.

While still at the early stage of his IPL journey, the exposure to high-pressure cricket and experienced teammates is expected to play a crucial role in his development.
