Player Bio

There are very few hard-hitting all-rounders in the Indian domestic circuit who can bowl pace, and Shivam Dube is one of them. A talented left-handed player, Dube has made a name for himself in the cricketing world with his exceptional all-round skills. Equipped with the ability to swing his bat left-handed and roll his arm over for right-arm medium pace, he has become a vital cog in the domestic circuits for Mumbai, the glamorous Indian Premier League and the Indian T20I team.

Shivam Dube’s Background and Early Life

Born on June 26, 1993, and raised in Mumbai, Maharashtra, Shivam Dube originally hails from the Bhadohi district in Uttar Pradesh. His father, Rajesh Dube, migrated from UP to Mumbai in search of better job opportunities. Despite financial constraints, Dube’s father never restrained him from playing the sport.

Dube played school cricket for Hansraj Morarji Public School, but had to stop at 14 due to the financial constraints and being overweight, and was unable to improve his fitness. He returned to play at the age of 19 and was soon selected for the Mumbai Under-23s.

Shivam Dube’s Domestic Career

Returning to the cricket field, Shivam Dube made his T20 debut for Mumbai in the 2015–16 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on 18 January 2016. Soon, he became known for hitting boundaries lower down the order and picking up wickets. But the headline moment came when he smashed five sixes in an over off Pravin Tambe in a Mumbai T20 league game.

The very next year, he made his List A debut for Mumbai in the 2016–17 Vijay Hazare Trophy on 25 February 2017. Notably, in his first match, he took his maiden five-wicket haul in first-class cricket. Moreover, in Mumbai's match against Railways in the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy, he scored his maiden first-class century.

In his next match, against Karnataka, he took another five-wicket haul, with seven wickets for 54 runs. On 17 December 2018, in the Ranji Trophy match against Baroda, Dube hit five sixes in one over. It was the second time he had scored five sixes in an over. He was the leading wicket-taker for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy in 2018, with 23 dismissals in eight matches.

Shivam Dube’s IPL Career

Following his domestic exploits, Shivam Dube was roped in by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (now Royal Challengers Bengaluru) ahead of the 2019 IPL season. A lot was expected of him, but the attacking batter was disappointing, to say the least. He registered 40 and 129 in the 2019 and 2020 seasons, respectively, and was released by the franchise as a result.

Ahead of the IPL 2021, Dube was bought by the Rajasthan Royals for INR 4.40 crore. While he did not leave a great impact on the bat as a whole, his blistering 64 runs against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) impressed MS Dhoni, who made the all-rounder a part of the Yellow Army after signing him in the IPL 2022 auction.

This changed Dube’s career arc for good. The southpaw smashed 289 runs in the 2022 season at a strike rate of 156.22, playing quite a few impactful knocks. He set the IPL 2023 on fire, bringing consistency to his batting that he had lacked previously. Dube racked up 418 runs that year, filled with 35 sixes, at a strike rate of 158.33.

In the IPL 2023 final, Shivam Dube, along with Ravindra Jadeja, stitched a crucial partnership to help CSK attain the fifth title.

Despite the franchise’s mediocre run, the swashbuckler amassed 396 runs in IPL 2024 with a whopping strike rate of 162.30.

Dube failed to set the stage in the IPL 2025. Just like CSK, the all-rounder fell flat in a season where he scored over 350 runs but had a strike rate of just 132.22.

Shivam Dube’s T20I Career

Shivam Dube’s IPL exploits paved the way for his India debut. In October 2019, Dube was named in India's T20I squad for their series against Bangladesh. He made his T20I debut for India against Bangladesh on 3 November 2019. In the third match of the series, he registered bowling figures of 3/30 in the third match of the series.

On 2 February 2020, in the fifth T20I match against New Zealand, Dube bowled the second-most expensive over in a T20I match, conceding 34 runs.

He returned for the T20I series against Ireland in August 2023 but received the opportunity in only one match. He was also a member of India’s winning squad in the men’s cricket event of the Asian Games 2023.

Thanks to his red-hot form in IPL 2024, Dube was included in the Indian squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, ahead of the likes of Rinku Singh and Shubman Gill.

On 11 January 2024, in the first T20I against Afghanistan, he scored 60 runs off 40 balls and took a wicket while conceding 9 runs, showcasing his all-round abilities. In the next match, he hit an unbeaten 63 from 32 balls to help India chase down the target of 173 with more than 4 overs to spare.

The T20 World Cup 2024 was a significant milestone in Dube's career. Representing India on the global stage, he contributed both with the bat and ball. His major contribution was in the finals against South Africa, where Shivam Dube played a pivotal role in India's narrow seven-run victory.

Coming in at a precarious 103/4 after 13.3 overs, Dube joined Virat Kohli and injected momentum into the innings. He scored a quickfire 27 runs off 16 balls, featuring three sixes and a four, achieving a strike rate of 168, the highest among Indian batters in that match.

In January 2025, Dube made his international comeback in the fourth T20I against England in Pune, where he scored 53 off 34 balls and won man of the match despite being unable to bowl after suffering a concussion. In the fifth T20I, he scored 30 runs off 13 balls and picked 2/11 in two overs.

In September 2025, while bowling against the UAE in the Asia Cup 2025, he got his best T20I bowling figures of 3/4, taking three crucial wickets in the middle overs to trigger a collapse.

Interestingly, playing for India, Dube held a unique record in the T20I for the longest time.

Dube set a historic world record with a 37-match unbeaten streak in T20Is (2019-2025), spanning 34 wins and 3 no results, which finally ended in October 2025 during a loss to Australia.

Shivam Dube’s ODI Career

Along with his T20I debut, Shivam Dube also marked his entry to India’s ODI squad for their series against the West Indies in 2019. Making his ODI debut on 15 December 2019, he fell flat, scoring only 9 runs off 6 balls.

He made his second ODI appearance in August 2024 against Sri Lanka, taking his maiden ODI wicket while conceding 19 runs in 4 overs.
