Player Bio

Shashank Singh is an unsparing batting talent who took the IPL by storm after being an “accidental buy” by the Punjab Kings.

Ahead of IPL 2024, Punjab bought Shashank for INR 20 lakh, only after a controversy around an alleged mistaken identity during the auction. However, the franchise later stated that he wasn’t bought mistakenly.

Shashank made his List A debut on 10th December 2015 in the 2015-16 Vijay Hazare trophy against Punjab. Considering his impressive domestic performances, he fetched an IPL contract worth INR 10 lakh from Delhi Daredevils ahead of the 2017 edition of the IPL, but didn’t get to feature in the coveted tournament.

On 9th December 2019, Shashank played his maiden first-class match for Chhattisgarh against Odisha in the 2019-20 Ranji Trophy tournament.

Shashank’s latest foreshow in Chhattisgarh's Mumbai conquest was vital, where he played an important partnership with the centurion Amandeep Khare by making 40 off 43 balls in a 97-run stand that brought the target down to double-digits.

Shashank Singh IPL Career

Shashank Singh made his IPL debut on April 9, 2022, for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Chennai Super Kings at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai.

Apart from SRH, his early IPL years were with Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals. It was with the Punjab Kings where Shashank truly found his footing in the 2024 season.

In a memorable run chase against the Gujarat Titans, he announced himself with a blistering 61 not out off 29 balls from number six, showcasing his finishing ability. That season, he smashed 21 sixes and established himself as a dependable lower-middle-order option.

Building on that, he became a mainstay in Punjab’s batting unit and was retained ahead of the 2025 mega auction. He followed it up with another strong season, scoring over 350 runs at a strike rate in excess of 160 and playing a key role in Punjab’s run to the final.
